Mary Jane Girls 'Sweet Conversations' - finally released???

It appears the long-delayed third album which was announced way back in 2014 may have been released after all. Or rather, it's about to be released? I'm not sure, but it seems the album is now called Sweet Conversations: https://open.spotify.com/...uqk6DzU0OG

Unfortunately I'm unable to play this on Spotify (I'm in the UK). Can anyone shed some light on this? I'm still holding out for a physical release!

Hmm.

The photo looks like a leftover from the first album photo shoot.

True, but they always have to go with old photos for these types of releases. Unless you're implying that the album made it to the artwork stage back in 1986?

This is exciting! Been waiting for this when it was first announced in 2014. It's on Deezer too, but "not available in my country" sad

The song titles are:

One The Street Where You Live

Shake Me

Keep Givin It Up

Walk Like A Man

Where's The Party

Night Lover

Hollywood

Can You Make It Feel Good

Bad Reputation

I'm sure it will hit iTunes/Play/etc at some point but I want it NOW biggrin

Oops, "Walk Like A Man" is not part of the playlist, but we've all heard that song already.

so if this had been released in 1986,what do you think the first single should have been? I think "Where's The Party" might have worked well.

I'm surprised that none of these ladies have mentioned this album on their FB pages...perhaps it's a project that they'd rather forget? hmmm

A few of the songs sound okay. Maybe a few of these tracks were previously

unreleased songs because I thought a few of the songs that were on Val Young's

Private Conversation album were intended for the never released MJG's Conversation album.

Keep Giving It Up sounds like Rick's Can't Stop which sounded like a Beverly Hills Cop soundtrack

song.

so what do you guys think of the album?! smile It's one of those albums where all the songs sound alike (a problem that Rick was having with his own albums from this period). There are some cool tracks on the album, but I don't hear a "hit single" anywhere. There's no "Candy Man" or "In My House"-type song here....a song that could have been an instant radio hit back then.

I agree...a few songs sound OK,but I also think that most of these songs are over-synthesized.Too many layers of synths! smile

How can you have too many synths?

Sounds like your typical Rick James album from this time period. Of course it would be synch heavy... Rick James...1986. biggrin That was his sound. I'm assuming there was no new album artwork because the album was shelved before they got a chance to have an album photoshoot. I'm just glad it's out there. I'm really quite shocked it's been on youtube for well over a year and we didn't know about it. eek

Still no sign of a physical release? I would have thought Japan would have announced something at least...

They probably don't want to talk about it. lol
I'm quite sure they were disappointed as fans were when the album was shelved
due to Rick's legal problems. They would make a good Unsung episode.

I can't wait to check it out. If any of you are familiar with Rick's 'The Flag' album, he had already started to pigeonhole himself by '86. Don't get me wrong, I love 'The Flag', but I can also see why it wasn't a hit record, his music did start to become repetative. But thats all probably due to the cocaine.

Lady Cab Driver is one of the greatest songs ever!

'The Flag' was the first Rick James album that I was disappointed with.Nearly all of the songs sound alike.By that point, his sound had become too formulaic and robotic...filled with synths, synths and more synths....lol....

Now I really need to hear it. I love me some synths. Especially dated sounding 80s ones. No such thing as too many synths.

I loved the Flag. It wasn't part of his classic period but I felt he had some good songs on it.

Now Wonderful is a different conversation. That album is when he really fell off.

I remember a radio station in my hometown was giving a way Freak Flags as part of promoting

Rick's the Flag album. LOL
