Ed Sheeran sued by Gaye Estate for jacking "Lets Get It On" The Gayes have filed suit over Sheeran's "Thinking Out Loud", claiming it jacks "Lets Get It On". . My Spidey-sense went off on that derivitive nonsense the first time I heard it while waiting for a sandwich at a shop. Soul music pussified, drained and turned into a Gap advertisement. . There are children on TMZ shouting that the song is not a ripoff and they sound nothing alike. What does the org think? if it was just a dream, call me a dreamer 2

"Thinking Out Loud" sounds more like "Let's Get It On" than "Blurred Lines" sounds like "Got to Give It Up".
Considering that the Gaye Estate won the "Blurred Lines" case, I don't see any reason for them to not to against Sheeran. It's a dead on rhythmic comparison. EDIT: It's actually Ed Townsend's family who is suing Sheeran, not Gaye's. [Edited 8/10/16 7:42am]

It's the Townsends who co-wrote the song that are suing not the Gaye family. The bad thing is I can't hear "Let's Get It On" without thinking of Ed Sheeran and frankly it's a turnoff lol. No, in all seriousness, the songs are quite similiar so the Townsends do have a chance at winning this lawsuit. [Edited 8/10/16 10:24am] Love is God,

OMG I hate to say it but... that one so deserves litigation.

Interestingly enough, comparisons were made as early as the start of last year if not near the end of 2014. What really gets me though is how people truly believe that there are no similarities whatsoever.

. I was confused when I heard of this today, as I believed it was common knowledge that Sheeran used 'Let's Get It On' as a template for his ditty. Still, if he didn't credit the writers in the album sleeve, then he's in big ta-rouble, mister. . I don't want your rhythm without your rhyme

I don't understand why artists can't just simply credit where they get their music or "inspiration" from

Because they think they can get away with it especially if the artist they are sampling or getting "inspiration" from don't have proper legal representation.....and they have totally underestimated the Gaye Estate, which is pretty surprising given the recent ruling against Blurr Lines by Robin Thicke which totally ripped off Got to Give It Up. Did you make that time machine yet? Chile...
I just think these current artists think they won't get caught and they obviously don't respect the artists that they sample. No artist with real intergrity will do that without crediting. Its beyond disrespectful.

Well I have been doing some research looking at various designs , if we all gonna travel back in time it has to be comfy, ergonomic and have a pretty good sound system. Something like this
but with more seats, cause I'm sure alot of us want to back and enjoy real music again.

. Anybody got the album booklet of Thicke's 'Sex Therapy'? I could swear that he doesn't credit the lyrics by Rakim (from 'Mahogany') he uses on 'Mrs. Sexy'; just the 'I'm Glad You're Mine' sample that was also in 'Mahogany'. . . . .
