Ghost - Square Hammer

Within the past few months there's been some good Rock/Metal releases and the new Ghost Ep(Popestar) is one of them.

What i like about Ghost's songs are the melodies. I also think its cool that they don't solely rely on distorted guitars and chunky rhythms. They have this pop, metal, retro sound that's pretty cool. Their music is heavy but its not Heavy Metal. IDK... i really hate labeling shit. To me, music is music.

In terms of melody, mood, song structure and sound, people compare Ghost to late 70's-80's Blue Oyster Cult. And i would somewhat agree.

Fuck...

They're a good band. The musicians in Ghost can play their asses off....They sound like a modern cross between B.O.C and Type O Negative.

A yes siree to both posts.

As a band, I'm glad that Ghost came along. In today's rock/metal scene, so many bands sound alike(and have for years). That Ghost sound though. It stands out. Its not as if a person cant hear their influences. Its just that they do a really good job of taking those influences and adding something better to them. There's a lot of current bands who have a retro(whether it be doom rock, stoner rock, etc) sound, but i cant think of many bands who mix their influences as well as Ghost does.

As far as Ghost's lyrics and imagery? I get a kick out of the Imagery. Some of the lyrics though, not so much. I'm definitely not one of those people who thinks that just because someone talks about satan, or listens to someone who does, they're going to hell, or some crazy stuff like that. Basically its all just entertainment, but i still say fu*k satan! Lol.

Anyway, IMHO, they're three for three(full album, wise).

Rest in Peace Bettie Boo. See u soon.
