Michelle Branch 2 join NPG records??

Michelle Branch seems to be going through some tough times with her record company (sound familiar?) Maverick owned by Madonna. Something about yadda yadda blah blah, you read the article. Way over my head for me. Anyways point being, I think Michelle is a great artist and would love Prince to "sign" her on NPG so she can have total control and freedom. What do my fellow fams think? Sounds good or 2 hell with Michelle Tree Branch? I say yes! F Madonna and go with Prince.

This is just another example of an ungrateful artist trying to re-negotiate their record contract. and get more money.Alanis Morrisette (also on Maverick) did the same thing a few years ago.Now that Michelle has a platinum album and a hit song with Santana, she now thinks that she is the world, and should be paid as such. It's all about ego and dollars.

As for Michelle joining NPG Records, there is only one problem.Prince's "label" is pretty much non-exisitent these days. The only artist on the NPG roster is himself! With her ego and bitchy demands,Michelle is gonna expect much more from a label (translation: huge budgets for promotion, videos, etc).

From what I've heard Prince demands more from the people he signed in the past then the major record companies do. His contracts are said to be brutal.

Contracts? I thought he was over that. But hey if he does have them what does it show you? Only the elite can play with Prince!

You may be right, but you would really have to see it for yourself, you know? I wonder how much Michelle's life has changed (financially speaking) since she sold her millionth album... You can sell a million albums these days and have virtually nothing to show for it (although for a 19 year old, she can't be just scraping by with this...)

It's a double-edged sword. New artists are desperate to get a record deal and most of them will sign anything. They don't have any money or anything else except their talent when they start out, so they have to count on the record company for recording their music, marketing them and their music, and getting it distributed.

When new artists are being signed, they don't have the money to hire a top notch entertainer lawyer to look after their interests. Most young artists probably only have a manager who is going to be just as naive and eager as the artist to get signed.

Prince had been in the business for years before he discovered that he really needed a top-notch entertainment lawyer who knew how to deal with record companies and get the best possible deal for his client. Prince, unfortunately, had legal representives who were going for the short-term rewards of signing contracts for promises of cash, instead of going for the long-term benefit of getting ownership of master recordings.

Michelle Branch is just the latest example of a young artist who was eager to take what the record company had to offer, but once she hit, she was surprised to find out just how much the record company is taking of her earnings.

As far as the title of this thread, it will never happen. NPG Records doesn't have the resources that a top young pop artist like Michelle Branch needs. NPG Records works for Prince because he already has an established fanbase. His fans know they have to go the extra mile in order to get his music.

Michelle is a newcomer and at this stage of her career, she needs the promotion and marketing machine of a major label. If she is able to develop a fanbase, maybe she can go independent in the future. But right now, she can't.

Madonna doesn't 'own' Maverick. This always gets blown way out of proportion. 'NPG' is hardly a label...c'mon now.

If Michelle never wants to see a chart again, or fade into obscurity she'll join NPG.I think God fortunately blessed her with Brains aswell as beauty, so Maverick it'd be.
