Non-Prince music helping you deal with missing Prince? I heard this song on the radio today, and I was just gripped; my heart strings plucked and the whole time I couldn't seperate missing Prince from getting sucked into the song. Partly, the music; partly the message - not a Prince tune, but a meta-theme song fit to describe all the wallowing I've done in Prince music, youtube wormholes, etc.

No, of course you are not alone in trying to find music to cope with Prince's demise. It makes sense, especially if Prince's music helped you to deal with the ups and downs in your life. I have posted several songs on here that help me cope. I am going back to artists that gave me strength before I ever heard of Prince: Stevie Wonder, Carol King, Earth Wind & Fire, Marvin Gaye, Tina Turner, Joni Mitchell... But I also listen to more recent albums like Mingo Fishtrap's "On Time." And, although she isn't a young artist, Bonnie Raitt's new album "Dig In Deep" is helping me on my journey out of the valley of darkness... Listen to other artists and then you can come back home to Prince. "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

Remember..you're not alone...we all feel the same and trying our best to heal..... I've been listening to a lot of artists that have some electronic groove (and funk) like he did. A lot of the stuff I've been playing since he passed: Tricky, Theivery Corporation, Flying Lotus, Pretty Lights, The Weeknd, Chromeo, J Dilla, Chemical Bros, Bjork, Savages, Little Dragon...Makes me bob my head, smile and zone out a bit...And I've also listened to Sly's "Riot", Marvin's "Here My Dear" and Joni's "Hejira" because I know P grew up with those too. Check out some stuff that he dug and it will make the trek back easier.

Not weird at all. That song was pretty good. A little too long, but that may because it was hard to watch the video showing obvious pain in the man's eyes.
I've never been a country music fan but my room-mate bought me a Chris Stapleton c.d. (the traveler) as I told him it was a greater loss as Prince was not only was a great singer but an amazing song writer and it's almost impossible to find both. Stapleton is surprisingly good at both I think. Eventually every cloud runs out of rain.

Listening to albums: Pat Metheney's Secret Story; Esperanza Spalding's Emily's D+Evolution; Miles Davis' Filles de Kilimanjaro; Siouxsie & the Banshees Through the Looking Glass; Corinne Baliey Rae's The Heart Speaks in Whispers. > Mixing Sananda Maitreya/TTD tracks into a narrative romance soundtrack--focusing some thoughts toward love to take my mind off of loss. > Looking around to discover/rediscover some nice jazzy vocal musics and songs with pleasing narrative lyrics.
