Nick Ashford was someone I greatly admired, had the honor of knowing, and was the real-life inspiration for Cowboy Curtis' hair. RIP Nick. - Pee Wee Herman

I've got all of her albums so I'll have to pick this one up, too. Too bad her documentary didn't get the funding needed to finance the project. I hope they find a way to complete and release it... Wow what a pleasant surprise. I will definitely be getting this. Love her so much. I wish she had recorded into the 80s. I wonder what her music would have sounded like.

Here's an interview with Betty Davis from 2009 on a podcast http://www.maximumfun.org...davis.html:
Betty Davis Interview on The Sound of Young America PodcastShow:
Betty Davis is a legend of soul and funk music. The one-time wife of Miles Davis introduced the jazzman to Jimi Hendrix, Sly Stone and the broad world of electric music, leading him to create "Bitches Brew." She recorded three albums of her own in the 1970s, full of raw, sexy, outrageous funk. The first two, "Betty Davis" and "They Say I'm Different" have been re-released by the Seattle label Light in the Attic Records. . Davis left the music industry in the late 1970s, and has been completely absent from the public eye since -- at one point, a fan had to track her down in the suburbs of Pittsburgh to get her $40,000 in songwriting royalties. . This is her first radio interview since her performing days.

It was so,cool to see Judith Hill talk about Prince being a fan of Bettys...because when I heard Turn Up for the first time on Judiths album I knew they were inspired by her song "Shoobedoop and Cop Him!" Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.

She had an incredible life that deserves to be told, including the reasons as to why she left the music scene and what she did during that time period. Love is God,

I remember when my older sister and her boyfriend saw her in concert several times. She was like the female Prince performer, before his time, bold, and by the way she captured her audience with her music in a sexual sense, almost like Prince did, and the lingerie outfits she used to wear on stage. Interesting how Larry Graham was part of her band too, back in the day. Apparently as the story goes, she just up and left the music scene.

Gotta get a hold of this from The Original Funk Goddess. A popular print mag did a nice piece/interview on her a few years back, can't remember who. I think I have a copy somewhere in a box.

I wish Light In The Attic could release Betty's 1979 recordings. These songs appear on a few bootlegs called Hangin Out In Hollywood and Crashin From Passion, but it would be great to finally have an 'official' release, with liner notes and all the details.

It's pretty good proto-funk...if 'nasty gal' is betty turned up to 11, then this is betty at about 6. It sounds like she's not real comfortable yet; but you can sure see where she's going. Basically, it sounds like what it is; a handful of great musicians feeling out what they might be able to squeeze out of their collective effort. Highly listenable, but a little disappointing in that it didn't go any further.
also, annoyingly, this is yet another vinyl that does not come with a download code... [Edited 7/4/16 16:44pm]

Nice to hear this. I prefer Betty's later fully-fledged funk albums though. "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato
