The man singing with Erykah was Bilal, and the girls were Chloe X Halle.

Chloe & Halle are Beyonce protegee's and nice looking young ladies at that. I wish is didn't turn into that trap rap/r&b crap. They seem like they have so much potential and are better than that. I expected a Lianne La Havas sound.

Damn, I'm disappointed to hear they are Beyonce proteges. They were so good and now I'm afraid they'll be pushed into making shitty crap/trap garbage. They seem too sweet and talented for that.

Any thoughts on Janelle Monae's performance? ?

They didn't impress me at all.

She was great as far as the entertainment part of it goes...her outfit was on point, her dancing and energy...all on point, however, her vocals IMO weren't strong enough for his songs. She made an excellent attempt at honoring him though. At least it came from the heart and I can live with that.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Folks on the other BET Awards thread were talking about how awful Alicia Keys performance was. Well I actually got a chance to look at it last night, and I have to say that: I actually got her performance. Although she sung her own newly released song, which I love, the performance itself, was a tribute to Prince's ability to do all of his music, his way, by himself. You see she had all of her instruments in front of her and played them all, her way, by herself. It was amazing and I'm pretty sure it wasn't easy to do. I have to give it up to her on that, she killed it. nod

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

For some reason she always comes across as a spas whenever I see her perform but I think she actually tightened it up a bit for this performance. I also agree her vocals were a little weak but it was still entertaining.

CoolMF

Finally sat down to watch it on last night. Overall, the performances were much better than I expected and better than years past.

#1- Sheila E./Prince Tribute

#2- Desiigner

Honorable mentions- Beyonce/K-Dot (dope), A. Keys (sorry, but I really dug the performance and song), and Fat Joe/Remy (great look for old school hip hop).

Never seen a BET Awards show before, really haven't watched anything like this for a long time. Watched the whole show over a few days and thought it was damn good.

Thought all the Prince tributes were right on point. Makes me wanna give Bilal more of my time.

Beyonce was a strong opening, not gonna start buying her music, but felt the impact.

Alicia Keys, doing her thing on her own, very cool, I thought.

Chloe x Halle was a nice surpirse. But on second listen I wasn't hooked further.

Anderson .Paak was my non-Prince related highlight. Reckon I'll be buying some of his stuff.
