almost got to meet him a couple years ago but my old shyness still acts up sometimes. seemed very humble and quiet. sounds like george really screwed him and is a piece of shit, if it's true, just dissapointing.

I'm reading George's book now and from what he says he spent most of his time during those years chemically impaired so I don't doubt that a whole bunch of stuff did not get done right and now people are dying broke. So heartbreaking after a lifetime of brilliant work.

I donated to Bernies fund raiser a few months back because there is no way he should go out like that.

judy is pretty unforgiving in her statements on FB. Makes GC sound like a real piece of shit. I always heard it was the crooked manager that ripped them off. but from what judy is saying george made out ok, don't know how true it is. All I can tell you is that I last saw Bernie playing, maybe 2 years ago at a dive in North Seattle with some pretty shitty band that hired him for his name. He did not seem interested in being there and got the hell out as soon as it was over, hence, I had maybe a five second window to introduce myself. He deserved a lot better. Not too many in his league as an influence of black/pop music.

Dawn Silva will always tell ya "everybody who was in P-Funk should be millionaires". While I don't share that sentiment to that extent, after all the band swelled to as many as 100 strong. I do believe the principle producers and songwriters should be (multi millionaires). When it's all added up there is no doubt in my mind that P-Funk should be amongst the richest performers to ever make pop music. Think of all the sampling, reissues, commercials, etc. yet none of them really have a proverbial pot to piss in. We are talking easily a quarter billion dollars. This is tragic on many levels. No other band has been involved in as much legal wrangling and tangling. The band was producing the tracks yet all the record says is produced and conceived by GC. And believe me when I say Bernie was doing all of that chyt. I've said it before and I'll say it again the whole Funkentelechy album is a Worrell solo album with Parliament guesting lol. Cordell Mosson once told me the tale of how he produced the Brides song Nappy, did all the charts, led both Lynn & Dawn through the vocals in the studio while George was nowhere to be found. Yet when the record came out its produced by George & Bootsy. The Dr may have come with the final mix, maybe not. Point is there is no telling what level that occurred in frequently. He will always tell you in the press he could not have done it alone. But they should have gotten more credit. That being said, mugs got to be responsible for themselves too. I honestly believe by the time they realized what was going down it was too late. They were indulging in some substances too. A lot of members bolted away from George. But I am still not convinced it was all on George alone. The music business itself is one slimy mofo. And after all George is broke too. Bernie saw the writing on the wall and bailed about the time of Gloryhallastoopid. But then Atomic Dog comes out and he's back in the camp because it's like family to him. Junie has an interesting take on the track Knee Deep as well. How he basically did the whole record, with the exception of Bootsy on drums. Yet it comes out as "arranged by". For the record, George did have the "round and round the floor" bridge part. And he admits he gave that to Junie who came back and told him "sing it to this".
