Lemonade is really fantastic.
I was never a beyonce fan, liked some songs but didn't think she was all that.
With Lemonade she won me over. Not one filler, great production, haunting atmosphere that really catch the lyrics.
Really well done. |

Most respected? OK. Most creative? NO.
I listened to this album, and its grossly overrated. She is far from the "most creative" pop artist.
Anti is way better. |

the writers of these songs submitted them to a&r people and were called and congratulated when their songs were placed on beyonce's album....how deep, personal and creative. |

You know, the thing holding Lemonade back from being a classic isn't the fact that it wasn't written by herself.
There are albums like Tina Turner's Private Dancer that are still more compelling due to the choice of songs and the vocal performances. I don't think Tina wrote any of it, but she still sold it, and you felt it.
Explicit language is one of the things that holds Beyonce back from the status of a Tina or a Michael Jackson (often compared to by the fans and her hype machine).
It is a really good album from start to finish but you can't play it for everyone!
Truthfully for me and my ears, it should not matter, but when she keeps getting pushed to the forefront with an album you can't even play at work then she can't win.
Destiny's Child was cleaner, even with the messages of materialism and conditional relationships. |

No Lemonade is simply not a good album and she will never reach the status of Tina or Michael.Even Rihanna has a better overall catalog than Beyonce. Beyonces problem is that none of her music makes an lasting impact and is only here for one minute and forgotten the next. This album was hyped when it came out..... but nobody is currently talking about this album anymore and its just been a little less than 2 months since its release. I hear more of Anti on the radio than Lemonade.

Even if you think Lemonade is a good album, one good album out of 6 over the course of a 13 year solo career does not make one "the most creative artist in the pop game". It's not the quantity of albums, it's the quality and Beyonce has neither. Beyonce's had good songs in the past but to me, her albums aren't anything special and honestly, people recall her singles more than her albums. |

Thanks hun but I don't think I exaggerated Rihanna. Rihanna does have a better catalog than Beyonce and Anti is better than Lemonade. I don't think that suggests that Rihanna is prolific as an artist just stating that her music is more interesting than Beyonces...which it is. Yes, Anti is Rihanna's first cohesive album. |

Rihanna is OK and like Beyonce has had some really good songs eg. Rude Boy, Disturbia are my jams , but both of them yet produced an album that will be listened to in 20-30 years time....they ain't Kate Bush or Sade whose music is timeless.

Well at the absolute least, Rihanna's albums (more so her singles) are more sonically interesting than Beyonce's but that's about it. |

I agree, but I do think Rihanna has more memorable singles. Songs like Disturbia, Rude Boy, Umbrella still get played on the radio till this day and they are great pop songs imo but overall you are right, neither have created timeless music or have a classic album. |

It wouldn't be the first time Rolling Stone said something completely worthy of being laughed at due to extreme silliness. A friend sent me a free download of Lemonade, but I couldn't' be bothered with her off-key loud singing.

I was over this album in a couple days.
She has a twenty year career with zero classic albums. If "creative" means taking ideas from others, then by all means.... |

Solid take. How would you rate Lemonade on a 1-10 scale? I haven't heard it. I rarely listen to Bey releases but I've been told by so many non-fans that this particular album was really good.
As for the points you raise, like you, I don't (always) deduct for albums using other people's songs (a lot of great albums would be nixed from classic status for that).
And I don't think profanity keeps Bey back from Tina/MJ status, per se. Her profanity has to be looked at in the context of her time. She grew up squarely in the hip-hop generation and superstars before her were "profane" or otherwise risque,(relatively speaking, e.g., Prince and Madge).
Time will tell how Bey is viewed. Time provides perspective on actual status.

If Beyonce is so proud to be talking shit on her songs then she is a lot closer to Millie Jackson than Michael Jackson , and I just wish the comparisons would cease because it is IMPOSSIBLE for her to compare him. The hype ruins my experience. They don't do this to movie stars, except with a few makeovers that might be an homage. |

The comparisons are at best, too early.
