Which music artists have you spent the most 'time' listening to in your life ?

Our musical preferences can change over time - so which artists (including Prince) and music genres did you spend the most 'time' listening to

- in your early and teenage years ?
- in your twenties ? (if this applies)
- after your twenties ?(if this applies)
- and which artists do you listen to now ?
.
if you want mark each artist with:
- an L to indicate you listened to regularly for a Long time (i.e more than 3 years)
- an O to indicate you still list to them Occasionally today
- an NAM to indicate you do Not listen to them AnyMore
- the age you started listening to that artist
.
For example, in my case its something like this:

Early and Teenage years:
- Heavy Metal (Led Zeppelin, AcDc etc) - from age 11 - NAM
- The Police - age 13 - L - O
- Depeche Mode - Age 13 - L - NAM
- New Wave - age 14 - L - NAM
- Prince - age 14 - L
- Electro / Breakdance - age 15 - L - NAM
- Tom Waits - age 16 - L - NAM
- The The - age 18 - L - O
- My Bloody Valentine - age 18 - L - NAM
- The Fall - age 19 - L - NAM
- Ska / Twotone/ Reggae (the Beat, the Specials, the Selector, etc) - age 19 - L - NAM

Twenties:
- Prince - L
- Marvin Gaye - age 20 - L- NAM
- Tom Waits - L - NAM
- The The - L - O
- My Bloody Valentine - L - NAM
- The Fall - L - NAM
- Punk/ Alternative (Fugazi, Pixies, Television, Dead Kennedys, Sonic Youth etc) - age 20 - L - NAM
- Bowie, Dylan, Beatles - but not so much and NAM
- Jazz (Miles, Wynton Marsalis etc) - age 21 - L - NAM
- Blues (Lightning Hopkins etc) - age 21 - L - NAM
- Sneaker Pimps - age 26 - L - NAM
- Massive Attack - age 26 - L - O
- Crystal Method - age 26 - L - NAM

- Chiilout /psytrance - age 26 - L - O

After Twenties:
- Prince - L
- Freestylers - L - O
- Funk (Bootsy, George Clinton, etc) - L - NAM
- Kelli Ali - L - O
- Lee Scratch Perry - NAM
- George Harrison - NAM
- Ladytron - L - O
- No Joy - NAM
- Chiilout/pystrance - L - O

Now
- Prince - L
- Esperanza Spalding - L
- Psytrance (Suduaya, Irina mikhailova, Vibrasphere etc) - L
- Spiritual music - L
I dont physically play music so much nowadays - I played Prince in particular so much in my life that the audio tracks seem to be kind of 'embedded' in my brain and if I want I can 'sorta play' the tracks in my mind almost in the same way as physically playing the tracks - i.e. it produces almost the same 'feeling'.

Uhhh... Okay... George Michael Jackson: NAM! Liked them when I was 16 but totally lost interest later and, to be honest, I don't understand how any adult can like these 2 teenybop idols. But that's just me.
Prince: L ever since 1988.
James Brown-Rolling Stones/Bob Dylan: L: discovered them throughout the years and still love them.
Amy Winehouse: NAM: she was a big hype about ten years ago, so I bought Back to Black, but I totally lost interest.
Does this answer your question?

Absolutely - yes that answers the question thumbs up!

.

Its interesting (imho) to see

- which artists we loved/listened to a lot in the past but dont listen to now.

- which artists we loved that we still do listen to now

and I'd also be interested if some good bands/music artists are mentioned that I aint heard before cos Im always interested in hearing new sounds

.

You mentioned James Brown ! I 4got to mention JB - years ago I used to play JB 'get up offa that thing' on timer first thing every morning to wake me up and get me outa bed and off to work smile

God Bless Prince

When I was younger I listened to a lot of Michael Jackson. He was the first artist I really paid attention to. Between the ages of 7 and 19 (the age I was when he died) I listened to him pretty much every day. When he died and he was all over the TV, I kind of stopped listening to him but I've rediscovered his music recently but I'm not as invested in it anymore.
During my teenage years, it was all the typical stuff you'd expect. Britney, Christina, Nsync, but I don't listen to that at all anymore.
From around 2005 to 2009 I was what you'd call a "moderate" Prince fan. My boyfriend at the time was (and still is) a huge Prince fan so I couldn't avoid his music. Since splitting up I've become a bit obsessed with Prince’s music and he's taken Michael Jackson's place as my main musical interest.
Those are the artists I've listened to the most but there's people like D'Angelo, Lenny Kravitz, Bon Jovi, Elvis, that I've also been a fan of since my early teens but I don't think I'd listen to them all that often.

Early on I'd listen to EW&F, Barry Manilow, Deniece Williams, Stevie Wonder, The Jacksons, and pretty much anyone in Casey Kasem's countdown list.

After that Id have to say I've listen to more Prince than any other artist from 1978-Present. Not sure if that means anything because Prince has put out more material than most artist have in their entire career.

Michael Jackson

I've listened to many artists in my lifetime; however, on a consistent basis, I've listened to Michael the most.

As long as I remember Bob Marley tunes have always been in the air. I dug him more than anything else. It was ethereal.
