Cyndi Lauper and Patti Labelle 1985 duet

Beautiful if not somewhat spotty chemistry between these two. Cyndi doesn't get enough credit for her soulful vocal prowess and Patti is a master of her craft as always.

What performance is this though? Where did it happen?

So that's where this is from?

Was it a one-off special/ tribute or was it a series?

It was just a one-time TV special on NBC, I believe. I remember Patti and Cyndi duetted on both "Time After Time" and "Lady Marmalade". Amy Grant and Luther Vandress were also guests on the show. I know there were more but I can't remember who else. I was just so excited to see Patti finally getting out to a wider audience. I was a bit surprised that she was able to net a TV special on a major network but "New Attitude" really brought her back in a big way.

NBC gave Patti the Green-Light before "New Attitude"....Patti appeared on NBC's Motown Returns to The Apollo in 1985 and her Performance garnered Media Buzz and it earned her an Emmy nomination for Best Performance in a Variety Special..That is when NBC siad Yes, especially when she was able to book Bill Cosby, he was on the special as well.....That is also when Burt Bacharach & his wife decided they wanted to work with her (On my Own)....In her book she said people told her that the Motown Returns special was the performance of her Career...At that time she was almost 40 or around 41-42....Solo success does not always happen over night you just have to keep giving 100%....TV is still very powerful on many levels...

Her performances of "Never Walk Alone" and "You Are So Beautiful" still bring me to tears to this day!
