Ms. Lauper played "When U Were Mine" recently at the Beacon theater, as a tribute to Prince.

While I'm sure asking "How you doing? You doing okay?" is just a way to get the audience responding, it seemed rather fitting for any Prince fans in the audience.

I cannot wait to get this album. I've just been lazy about updating music. Her blues album was #1 for weeks on end.

I wish she would get back to writing and recording original material. These cover albums from her are a bit of a drag now. Three of the last four albums have been covers.

I just came back from that concert. Yes, she sang that song. She talked about how Prince was kind and funny and generous. She seemed on the verge of tears when she told everyone to tell & show their loved ones that they love them before it's too late.

She came on late and talked a LOT between songs. She's still got her voice, which is amazing, frankly.

Yes, I saw her live on her joint tour with Boy George. Her voice is great, but she also came on late and goes on way too long between songs. I guess it's a matter of taste, but I didn't find her personality that compelling that I wanted to hear her go on and on. She was a bit scatter brained and kind of lost the audience. It would have been much better if she had talked less and done 2 or 3 more songs.

I enjoyed her much less than I thought I would, but I enjoyed Boy George much more than I thought I would. His voice may not be as perfect as Cyndi's, but he knows much better how to entertain an audience and connect with people. He says a few witty one liners between songs, not rambling on incoherently like she does.

It goes to show there's a lot more to being a great live performer than just singing technically perfect.

George has a reputation for being a bitchy diva and unprofessional, but actually it was Cyndi who to me came off as unprofessional whereas George put on a much better professional show.

I like Cyndi's music, but I would never go see her again unless she cuts way back on the talking and offers up more music.

Yes, there were times when I thought she could have said half as much about the songs she covered and sang and gotten the same point across. My parents were annoyed and they're country music fans. It was about 1/2 hour to 45 minutes after the opening act left the stage before she even came out. I saw a lot of screens come out during her banter. Because the venue wasn't an arena or stadium it felt like she was losing the audience.

I agree. I don't think all that banter would work in a large arena or stadium either. The venue she played with Boy George at was pretty big, about 7,000 or so.

To me, banter and chatting works best in very small intimate clubs. It also seemed awkward for her band standing there waiting for her to finish talking. Usually artists that I've seen that tell stories between songs tend to be solo artists who perform by themselves on just acoustic guitar or piano, not having a whole band just waiting there.

Perhaps her logic was she didn't want to do too many songs that people didn't know since she has a limited number of really big hits from her first couple of albums. So she had to fill the time somehow. But she actually has made a lot of albums not just in the 80's and her current country album. So it's not like she doesn't have many songs she could do.

Me personally a show doesn't have to be all hits for me to enjoy it. I would have been open to hearing more unfamiliar music from her (not just the country covers), rather than all the talking.
