Amy Winehouse

23rd July 2011, Amy Winehouse was found dead at her north London home, she was 27. The troubled singer had a long battle with drink and drugs which overshadowed her recent musical career. Listen to Amy Winehouse talking about Back To Black and her love of 60's music here: http://www.thisdayinmusic...usic_radio

Shit - 5 years already

Loved that documentary as well.

Amy's death made me so effing ANGRY at the music/fame industry but I guess you can't predict how you would behave in that situation until you are in it.

Respect and love. R.I.P

Amy died on my birthday, so I never forget. She was a truly talented artist. Wish there was so much more music out there, but grateful for what we did get from her.

Our culture is so fucking silly sometimes: Winehouse was a really good singer. But the adoration and
praise she receives after her tragic death is over the top sometimes. And we do this often with musicians.
Don't get me wrong; the "27 Club" is fun stuff to talk about, but it's a reflection of how easily we are
besotted with musicians can be kinda annoying - for example: why aren't we more infatuated with No-
bel Peace Prize? My dad always says: "Another dead musician." Can we argue with that cynicism?

If we stop worshipping singers, actors, etc., when they die, our world won't fall apart. I don't think
the most interesting thing about Winehouse was her voice - there are lots of singers who preceded
her who were just as gifted. The most interesting thing about her was she represented yet another
white English soul artist who rejected today's pop sensibilities for old school Black American music.

RIP to anybody who dies due to drug addiction - I don't care if you could carry a tune or not.
