Sun Ra anyone? I saw Sun Ra and his Arkestra about 1988 after everybody kept saying there is some parallels between his thang and P-Funk. So I went down there. Boy was I in for a surprise. I chalk it up to me being too young to appreciate it. I never listened to his music again. I thought it was just noise. Fast forward some quarter century and I come across this documentary the other night on him and have been pumping this amazing "joyful noise" ever since. This is some amazing music. Anyone else here into him?

He's really cray cray, but I, too, am a latecomer 2 his shit. I LOVE "Nuclear War" and all those M.F. Bombs! LOL! Check it out! Hungry? Just look in the mirror and get fed up.

The man is brilliant. I have to put him up there as one of the greatest pure musicians of all time.

I got to see him live in 1990 or so, as I was just getting into far-out jazz. I loved it. He's most definitely an original mind. And never lost the sense of fun and discovery no matter how weird things ever got.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

im a fan of his live performances...i was always amazed by the way he stalked the stage, seemingly putting spells on his band members, inspiring them to amazing riffs and solos...

I think some form of his band still plays, but the man himself has been dead for years.
Night of the Purple Moon is a great album.
