SAN ANTONIO -- Grammy-winning Tejano star Emilio Navaira has died in South Texas. He was 53.

Police in New Braunfels said in a statement Tuesday that preliminary results indicate the entertainer died of natural causes.

Officers were dispatched to a home in the city Monday night after relatives reported finding Navaira not breathing. He was pronounced dead at a hospital in New Braunfels, 20 miles northeast of Navaira's hometown of San Antonio.

An autopsy will be conducted.

Navaira, who was known to his fans as simply Emilio, was critically injured in 2008 when he was catapulted through the windshield of his tour bus in an accident in the Houston area in 2008. Navaira later pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated.

He won a 2002 Grammy for Best Tejano Album, "Acuerdate."

Neither was I, so if you have some clips of his music, that would me much appreciated. There is something about this Mexican corridos that I like, but I don't know much about it.

Another thing I notice... New Braunfels... That's a German name. So there's also a German influence here...

No, he's from my hometown San Antonio. I guess he was living there.

New Braunfels is known as German town, but lots of Mexicans and

blacks live there. His song Como Le Hare, was a cool jam. him and his

brother Raulito Navaira had a sort of Morris Day and Jerome thing

going on in concert.

I know it's hard for people to get into this type of music, if you're

not Mexican or from around the south west part of the US. Trust

me, it was hard for me as a black guy to get into this, but if you

have a open mind you can come to like some of it. I was a big

fan of Salena, because she used alot of cumbia and R&B in

her music.

He also had some minor hits with country music in english
