Crayons, Donna Summer‘s last studio album from 2008, will be reissued this June as a ‘Driven By The Music’ three-CD deluxe edition.

This reissue sees the original album remastered and includes the bonus track It’s Only Love which wasn’t on the US version of Crayons. The two bonus CDs feature a plethora of remixes of the aforementioned singles.

In terms of packaging, this is a ‘casebound book’, containing new sleeve notes by writer Christian John Wikane, with brand new interviews with producers Evan Bogart and Sebastian Arocha Morton, and Wikane’s archive interview with Donna from the time of the album’s original release.

Loma: A Soul Music Love Affair, Volume One: Something’s Burning 1964-68

From late 1964 until late 1968, Loma stood as the subsidiary of Warner Brothers Records aimed directly at the singles market. During its four year lifespan, the label released over 100 singles and a handful of albums, the vast majority of which reflected the collective taste of the men that guided Loma and thereby the evolution of a distinctive artform: soul music.

Viewed objectively, it would be incorrect to compare Loma to the other great R&B repositories of the mid-1960s. It was strictly an adjunct of a bigger label, a commercially-minded operation that threw product at the wall hoping for a hit to stick. But the choices made by those three main participants in charge of the Loma roster–Bob Krasnow, Russ Regan, and Jerry Ragovoy–have gone on to become cherished totems to legions of music aficionados around the globe, for whom chart statistics say little, while a simple 45 with a burnt yellow label can shake them to the very core. What was once regarded as failure has, in the years since, paradoxically become a story of soulful success.

The four volumes of Loma: A Soul Music Love Affair are the result of several years of in-depth research into the Loma vault. How did a Wisconsin chair company, producing records on the cheap and run by men with little knowledge of their audience or the music business, build one of the greatest musical rosters ever assembled under one roof? The answer lies in ‘The Rise and Fall of Paramount Records 1917-1932,’ an epic, two-volume omnibus of art, words and music housed in a limited-edition, hand-sculpted cabinet-of-wonder, to be jointly released by Jack White’s Third Man Records and John Fahey’s Revenant Records.

‘Volume One,’ which covers the label’s improbable rise from 1917-1927, will be released exclusively through Third Man on October 29, and worldwide on November 19. The project is co-produced by leading Paramount authority Alex van der Tuuk.

Paramount Records was founded on a modest proposition: produce records as cheaply as possible, recording whatever talent was available. Over its lifetime, the label would become a “race records” powerhouse, its sound and fortunes directly linked to the Great Migration.

By the time Paramount ceased operations in 1932, it had compiled a dizzying array of performers still unrivaled to this day, spanning early jazz titans (Louis Armstrong, King Oliver, Jelly Roll Morton, Fats Waller), blues masters (Charley Patton, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Son House, Skip James), American divas (Ma Rainey, Alberta Hunter, Ethel Waters), gospel (Norfolk Jubilee Quartette), vaudeville (Papa Charlie Jackson), and the indefinable “other” (Geeshie Wiley, Elvie Thomas). Paramount would also directly influence the style of Robert Crumb and countless other 20th century artists and illustrators, through a series of hand-drawn ads promoting its releases in the pages of the Chicago Defender.

The ‘Rise and Fall’ wonder-cabinet gives equal status to page-turning narrative and new scholarship; original and newly created graphic art; industrial design; and compelling analog and digital music experiences.

Vibe On Records is expanding the album’s eight tracks to twenty-nine with a plethora of exciting bonus material. Among the unreleased tracks are two mixes of La Toya’s original recording of “One Step Up, Two Steps Back”, made famous by soul icon Betty Wright; numerous remixes of planned single “I Like Everything You’re Doin'”; two further completed, unreleased songs; the 7-inch versions of the album’s hits; and finally, club mixes, dubs and instrumental tracks.

Rounding out the package is a sixteen-page booklet with previously unpublished photos, a new essay, an illustrated discography and expected input from La Toya herself.

If you’re scouring your local record stores and eBay looking for Prince albums on vinyl at newly inflated prices, Warner Bros. seems to have a message for you: Let’s not go crazy.

Prince’s heyday-era record label is set to release nine of his biggest post-“Purple Rain” titles newly pressed to wax this year, starting with “Around the World in a Day” on June 21. One or two albums will be released per month after that in the order they were originally released (or at least in the order recorded; see: “The Black Album”).

Amazon and other retails sites are now offering pre-sale orders starting around $20 for the new editions, which will also include the acclaimed “Sign o’ the Times” and the big commercial hits “Parade,” “Diamonds and Pearls” and the “Batman” soundtrack.

This vinyl reissue campaign was already in the works before Prince’s death, and started with a remastered version of his 1978 debut album “For You,” timed to Record Store Day on April 16. It seems Warner Bros. is expediting the rest of the series in the wake of his death -- shrewd business, sure, but also undeniably good news for music lovers. The label had already pressed new vinyl editions of “Purple Rain,” “1999,” “Dirty Mind” and “Controversy” in 2011 (still widely available), so it skipped ahead to his late-‘80s and early-‘90s records.

Some of the albums in this particular batch fall in the era when CD sales took over the industry, and Warners and the other big record companies made little to no vinyl editions of the records. These new pressings will feature the albums in their original format (no bonus tracks). Here’s the full list of what’s to come:

• June 21st: “Around the World in A Day” (1985)
• July 19th: “Parade (Under the Cherry Moon soundtrack)” (1986)
• August 23rd: “Sign o’ the Times”(1987)
• September 20th: “The Black Album”(1987 recorded; 1994 released)
• October 18th: “Lovesexy” (1988) and “Batman” soundtrack (1989)
• November 22nd: “Graffiti Bridge” soundtrack (1990) and “Diamonds and Pearls” (1991)
• December 13th: “The Love Symbol” (1992)
