Eurovision 2016 Eurovision is on this weekend, the biggest song contest in the world. Justin Timberlake will perform at the interval and although I like his music I can't help thinking this is a fantastic marketing opportunity for him.
With everything going on I have no idea whether there are any really good songs this year, but my work sweepstake choice, Macedonia, isn't in the final.

I love Eurovision, its like a family tradition in our household U can even play the drinking game eg. how many artists use the wind machine, smoke machine, drums etc. Lots of fun cause its so campy Keep Calm & Listen To Prince

Ireland, the most successful country in Eurovision history, didn't make the final. I'll still watch it though. The music is always really really bad but it's entertaining in a car crash kind of way.

Won't be watching am from the UK , they all hate the uk so whats the point

UK are not popular because we have a guaranteed place in the final due to being one of the biggest financial contributors (along with France, Spain, Germany, Italy). And yes the politics are the drag. This year Russia and Ukraine are highly both rated which could make things fraut.
JT qualified for the interval performace because the show is hosted in Sweden this year and his song has Swedish co-authors. IMO nothing will ever come close to Michael Flatley's interval insert during Eurovision 1994. I remember watching this and thinking all the contestants should get their coats and go home before voting closed. This interval act was vastly superior to every song in that contest including the Irish winner. [Edited 5/14/16 8:46am]

Really strong, emotional performance from Ukraine. Think I'll vote for that one.
(And I'm not anti Russian, I'm visiting Russia this summer as a tourist for the second time ever). [Edited 5/14/16 13:46pm]

I've only watched 3 songs and that was enough for me. Germany to win. Life Matters

I was hoping Australia would win just to see what would happen next year. Would they really have a non European country host the Eurovision?

I thought the German song was very good, and would have liked it to win, that's all I meant. Life Matters

I really liked the Belgium song, it reminded me of Bruno Mars meets Fleur East's "Play that Sax" song. Dami Im did us so proud with her song and fashion flare maybe next year Australia win We need to get either Guy Sebastian, Dami or Jessica Mauboy back next year Keep Calm & Listen To Prince

The Belgian song was good. It's difficult being the first one on and voters often forget what they heard earlier in the show. I was pleased that Ukraine won because for me that was a hearfelt performance that stood out above all the others (and I voted for Ukraine).
UK's song deserved to do better, 24th out of 26th is mean - could it anything to do with the fact we have a in/out of EU referendum coming up? If the UK got Adele to comission a song for Eurovision and sing it herself we would probably still get a poor score. Germany coming last was fair either. But that's the Eurovision for you, loads of politics but hopefully a good song comes out of it.

Third Third last. Should the UK be allowed to enter as one country? Should England, Scotland and Wales not be allowed to have separate entries?

I think it would be worth a try. I don't know how it works. They tried to ban the Welsh flag but did a u-turn.
Eurovision Song Contest bans the Welsh flag because it doesn't want to be "political"it doesn't want to be political

I don't think that's going to happen anytime soon. BBC own the rights to manage the UK Eurovision entry as they cover Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Besides there are already enough entries in the competition so splitting one country into four (when we would probably vote for one another anyway) wouldn't go down well. [Edited 5/15/16 6:37am]

It's all about the money so if USA were prepared to pay they'd be in. Romania wasn't allowed to enter this year because of outstanding debts to the European Broadcasting Union who organise the competition.
Did anyone else enjoy the Eurovision interval send up Love Love Peace Peace? It was hilarious.
