Currently bumping to Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti album Before Today, released in 2010.

Yes, you swear you've heard it somewhere else before, but you just can't be precise, mid-70's David Bowie? psychedelic melodied, synth pop somewhere around mid-80's? It even reminds me of some Minnie Riperton tunes! (Les Fleurs esp.)

Great composition, gives you this avant-garde pop atmosphere that's been missing lately.

The whole album's well-crafted and the instrumentation is just much more coherent than, say, the casual Tame Impala song (Kevin Parker's a God of psychedelia music, but not as subtle or steady as this guy)

Other recommended tracks: Lipstick, Beverkly Kills, Life In LA.

He's great - I love "Baby" off Mature Themes.

Also love his production work with Soko and Sky Ferreira among others.

He's an interesting guy, been around the Silver Lake scene for quite a while. I think I remember him from the late 90s/ early 2000s as a guy who was always carrying his homemade cassettes around, I would run into him at clubs and so forth. He's become really quite interesting. Definitely follows the beat of his own drummer.
