Except Rancid. Tim Armstrong is a great songwriter, and Lars Frederiksen is really entertaining.

What?!! Did you hear the last Rancid album?! It's one of the great punk albums ever and i really mean that...And Out Come The Wolves did their punk status no favors by mimicking The Clash but do check out their 2000 album, its majestic.

Oh, I loved the last Rancid album. I got the promo poster when I bought it and traded some stuff in for the Japanese version with the bonus track. I even saw them with AFI and The Distillers. They were so PUNK, dude...but that's the thing - they're not authentic. They're trying too hard. Technically, that makes them poseurs.

The thing that gets me with the new generation is that they sing about being "punk rock" (a marketing term), and the true old school punk bands never had the standard Duane Peters/Lars Frederiksen punk uniform. That came from the Sex Pistols, who, like Rancid, were completely inauthentic but wrote good songs and looked cool jumping around on stage.

And in the end, isn't that what rock and roll's all about? wink

I never liked Rancid before, so that's why I haven't heard anything recent of theirs. I would like to listen to their newest album, since some people on here like it, I could give it a try. But I won't go out and buy it. Maybe I'll just download it. I agree with TheMico though, in that a lot of newer bands just try too hard to be punk and really hardcore, and it just seems way too commericial and polished for my taste when it comes to that type of music.

Point taken. Yeah i do see where you're coming from with the image thing and Rancid, They're too anachronisitic. Like people who love rock n roll having their hair slicked back like Elvis to prove they're rock n roll. I do believe their last album was a turning point for them though. I thought it was over for the band after Life Won't Wait but the self- titled 2000 album blew me away. Another great band to check out are The Wildhearts. They're more punk rock than anything else and the biggest non poseurs ever.

Any band that I haven't heard of (The Wildhearts) is a band that I would consider checking out. lol
I'm not sure why I have this attitude about it, but if a band gets too well known, I just can't listen to them anymore. Not all bands, I'm just generalizing now, but this is the case a lot of the time with me.
