Well, janet has been doin the very same choreographies for ages...right now she just has got to be Unbelievably good at it...if U consider repetition opposed to creativity, she's damn the best!!

Well, if you bothered reading the posts above you would see that this is the general feeling most people on here have about Janet (especially me) - she is extremely repetitive.

But that does not make Madonna a better or more iconic dancer than her.

have you seen the tango, the partnered 'lifts', the "Erotica You Thrill me" number from Confessions tour, her busting a move in "Where's the Party" from Blond Ambition, the gun routine in "Revolver," the intricate "Gimme All Your Lovin" from MDNA, the innovative modern dance meets performance art happening of Impressive Instant in Drowned World, the flamenco in La Isla from "Girlie Show," "vogue" from Girlie show? apparently not

Vogue from ‘The Girlie Show’ – stiff and slow thanks to the headgear – emulating Thai statues or Geisha throughout the performance. ‘Blonde Ambition’ and ‘Reinvention’ versions are more smooth. She looks so uncomfortable – she should try dancing with nunchucks and see how difficult that is.

La Isla – ‘The Girlie Show’ – lovely performance, Madonna moves so effortlessly in this. I also love the choreography in the ‘Drowned World’ performance – but obviously from the dancers, Madge was just playing the guitar (no problem with her doing that though)

‘The Blonde Ambition Tour’ is perhaps my favourite tour of all time, but not because of the amateur like choreography – it was a great and entertaining show. ‘Where’s the party’ has the dated running man that I used to do when I was twelve years old. No joke, but I could learn that routine in a few hours.

‘Revolver’ – are you kidding me? Perfectly fine performance, but what dancing skill is applied to here? Waving a gun up and down, bending up and down? And oh my god it’s such a shit song too. She relies too much on her dancers and elaborate stage set – which is fine but it doesn’t prove she’s great dancer.

‘Erotica/ you thrill me’ –‘erotic’ turn to the left… ‘erotic’… turn to the right… now grab your partner and spin them around….ummmmm

But the end part does display some elegant moves which is really beautiful and impressive – that year in dance school in the 70s was not done in vain.

‘Give me all your lovin’ – nothing particularly interesting or innovative here. You see this kind of shit at every college game every weekend. It’s actually quite a laughable and embarrassing performance. Mutton dressed as lamb indeed.

‘Impressive instant’ (I was at this tour, FYI) – great song, great performance – dancers seem to be doing all the work though.

Thanks for your suggestions, but viewing these performances just reaffirms my initial opinion that elaborate stage designs and costumes do a good job of hiding the fact that Madonna is an ok dancer - performers like Janet, Paula Abdul and dare I say it J-LO and Britney are naturally more gifted dancers.

Outside of her fan base when it comes to dancing Madonna will always be remembered for rolling around on the floor in a wedding dress and stealing tongue and cheek hand gestures from gay clubs in the 80s and trying to pass it of as an actual dance move. I have never heard anyone say that Madonna inspired them as a dancer.

Madge enthusiasts fail to accept that she is not particularly great at anything – singing, dancing or acting – she gets by. But she is the master of creativity and has sharp and crisp direction on her tours.

Perhaps my favourite choreography of Madonna’s is the whole ‘Don’t tell me’ routine – she dances her ass off in the video and when performing it live with such coolness and style. I also loved the ‘papa don’t preach ‘routine from the re-invention tour and the ‘what it feels like routine from the ‘drowned world tour’ too.

LOL!

I should have included Keep It Together / BAT, Music Inferno/Confessions / Like A Virgin/Confessions and Deeper and Deeper GS

also the way someone moves...she's so subtly graceful and precise. Sorry you can't see it.

I see that in her sometimes. She's just not as good as Janet to me - that's the point I've been trying to make throughout this thread.
