In a post-Prince music world, my vote goes to Bruno Mars as well.

But lets not forget that Stevie Wonder, Daryl Hall & John Oates, Bruce Springteen, and a few other elder statepeople are still alive.

I simply don't get the Bruno thing.

For me, without question, Stevie Wonder. He puts out few albums, but between tours, headline gigs, TV appearances, honoring people in multiple fields, etc... He is the last of my top three since Prince and MJ are now gone. Funny how much he collaborated with those two, yet Prince and MJ couldn't do something together. But that video of them with James Brown is good enough for me.

I've always believed Prince and Michael did record together but we just haven't heard it. The Lenny Kravitz post of a cassette tape from 1993 I think titled secret recordings with Prince kinda confirms there is no telling what Prince has in his Vault. Plus consider Michael's song with Mick Jagger State of Shock. It wasn't until after Michaels death that I learned of another version with Freddie Mercury. Anything is possible.

He doesn't have a single song that I like.

What he is on.....about his 3rd cd? There should be something there worth a listen.

He hasn't released his 3rd album yet.

Just look at it this way: Bruno is the only mainstream star that has shown he can not only sing but dance, play instruments, produce and write. Even if you aren't a fan of him or his music, you have to admit that's where the comparisons to Prince come in. Sure, Prince had accomplished far more at a younger age than Bruno has and was an overall more skilled artist but that doesn't change that Bruno is the most well-rounded pop artist we have today similar to Prince in the 80's.

hmmm

Stokley runs rings around Bruno Mars.

That said, I'm not trying to really compare the guy.

I just haven't seen anything worth my time.

We can all agree that Bruno's first album was a mediocre effort at best. BUT, Bruno was smart enough to release it SO HE CAN gather a fanbase, and become popular; And in 2010, you had to have a great pop song with a greater hook to be relevant. On top of that, it was bad timing for him cause at the time he had just blown up with B.O.B and Travie McCoy and his label forced him to record an album. So, yes, cheesy lyrics here and there, but nice doo-wop melodies, catchy, fun lyrics... It's a sunshine album. (Even the heartbreak in it is not depressing as Adele's).

So, with his second album, Bruno was famous, you'd argue about the music now... Right, you take any music critic and he'll say that the evolution from Doo-Wops & Hooligans to Unorthodox Jukebox is uncanny, uncomparable, even the finest artists can't GROW that much.

Basically, it had ONE song that was flowing in the same fashion of D&H's songs, which is Young Girls. Apart from that, every song on UJ was a new thing (Even the production was masterful, very eclectic use of drums on Moonshine and Gorilla, powerful vocals on the whole album, of course a hybrid of all genres and styles from reggae rock to 60's soul pop).

You don't see that today.

Yes, the lyrics WEREN'T that special, but musically it was a step ahead; The exact thing an artist needs to undertake from his first album to his sophomore.

Then, you have Uptown Funk, the finest funk throwback in recent years.

I have a feeling that he's more into 90's hip hop R&B recently, but we'll see what BMARS has in store for us.

Bruno show shades of Prince, Michael, Morris Day, Rick James, James Brown, & Hammer, yet Bruno is still himself. My opinion of course.

At least Bruno preforms live, no lip-syncing to pre-recording tracks whatsoever.

This whole Bruno thing is hilarious

he is mediocre in every field... his dancing is pathetic, his live vocals are average at best, his range is very week, his muscian ship exists, but its a rudimentary existence. But most of all, his music is generic and dull.

He treads the same ground as those before him, only shallower. NOTHING knew here.

I can see how you'd be baffled by adding the Beibs to the list but I do think he's talented. How about Jack White? ?

Bruno Mars is not even that great. He makes incredibly commercial music and his whole image is nothing special. There's nothing particularly unique about him.
