This has always been a toss up for me. "The Woman I Am" and "What Cha Gonna Do For Me" are both excellent albums from beginning to end. Absolutely no filler whatsoever. TWIA probably wins for me simply because this was the album where she peaked, vocally. BTW, for those who don't read the Reissues threads, WCGDFM was recently reissued to include the two b-sides "Only Once" and "Lover's Touch", which has hightened my appreciation for the album even more! CHAKA KHAN FOREVER!!!! headbang

I've always considered Chaka as one of the big dog female vocalist of the mid 70's thru the late 80's . Like Aretha she's influenced a lot of vocalist who tend to sound like her on some of there recordings. Toni Smith on Tom Brown's Funkin for Jamaica & Thighs High" I thought was Chaka for at least 15-20 yrs. Sharon Bryant of Atlantic Star, Renee Diggs of Starpoint, , Vests, and Melissa Morgan.

Rhino has a box set out there which contains her first five solo albums for around $20. You definately cant go wrong with that one.

Dare Me To Love You would be a 2nd best solo release if it had been issued. But What Cha is the pinnacle of her recorded output indeed.

On this album, the song "Fate" should have been a single! That song is great. It was even sampled on a popular dance hit in the 90s.

What Cha Gonna Do For Me indeed! I still can't get over how briliant "Night In Tunesia" is!

By the way, I got the recent BBR reissue and was a bit underwhelmed as it wasn't the amazing sonic upgrade compared with the old cd that I was hoping for.
