Janet Jackson, also known by her stage name Janet, is an American singer-songwriter, dancer, philanthropist, and actress. She began her career as a child star in several sitcoms during the late seventies, before transitioning into popular music with her self-titled debut album and breakthrough, Control. In addition to being declared a global "pop culture phenomenon,"Jackson is considered an iconic figure in the fields of pop music,entertainment,fashion, and gay culture; along with dance and choreography. Her collective body of work has been cited to create templates for numerous artists who have emerged following her.

Selena Gomez has revealed that her new tour will be partially inspired by Janet Jackson and Britney Spears's past stage shows

Gomez offered a preview of her upcoming stage show to On Air with Ryan Seacrest by suggesting that she is drawing inspiration from her musical heroes.

"I kind of missed shows when it used to just be about the dancing and the performing as opposed to how big and elaborate the stage is, so I kind of want to get back to that," Gomez explained.

On Styled To Rock, the first challenge for the designers is to make an outfit inspired by their muse. The winner will have the costume inducted into the LA Live Grammy Museum. Jordan names Janet as his biggest inspiration and makes a leather suit. While he was in the top 6 saved from elimination, the judges don't see any Janet in his creation. His response was "I know Janet better than anyone!"
