OFRA HAZA - GREATEST SINGER EVER! Ofra Haza is an Israeli singer, who sadly passed away in 2000. Her voice in my humble opinion is the best I have ever heard in all my life - flawless tonal quality, great range, tremendous emotion. Have a listen if you've never heard of her, and try listen to a few songs as she did lot of different work & styles :
'Im Nin' Alu' Worldwide Hit from 1988, translates as Even if the gates of the rich are closed, the gates of heaven will never be closed :
'The Veil' showcasing her incredible voice acapella, turn up the volume on your speakers:
Cover of Madonna's 'Open Your Heart' (yes it is Ofra Haza despite person posting it seemingly not knowing that and thinking it is Madonna!)

Love her part of this as well. She really amps up the emotion of the song. Simply gorgeous and powerful.

I loved her hit "Galbi". It was played in several New York dance clubs in 1988. Love it.

LOVE Ofra Haza! Thank you so much for acknowledging her here - and everyone who has since contributed to the post. Her story is remarkable and while there have been a few documentaries about her in Israel, there is very little of it in English. I would love to see a movie made about her and hopefully see that her voice is heard by a new generation - and that perhaps the "mystery" of her death (apparently there is quite a conspiracy about the involvement with her husband - who shortly after her died), the treatment of women in the country, AIDS stigma that still exists there, and other things could be explained. In other news, there was supposed to be a new CD last year (and snipets were even featured on her website) but, alas, it has yet to see release. She was so talented and, like many artists since Y2K that have died unexpectedly, has a great body of diverse work... unfortunately leaving fans only wanting more.

The final album (recorded at Ran Aviv's studio) is sadly still waiting to get released some 16 years later! As you probably know her family and that of her husband had legal battles for many years, apparently a settlement was reached not too long ago; had they not been fighting for years I expect more product would have been released, and whilst they were doing so for such a long period her memory was starting to fade. Even Bezalel Aloni her long time manager could only release 'Forever Ofra Haza' CD in Europe due to the legal situation. A movie about her life would be wonderful, all the documentaries as you mentioned have been in Hebrew so if a main definitive one is done in the future an International version in English would be great!
