Whitney Houston Documentary Coming From Kurt and Courtney Director Nick Broomfield Filmmaker Nick Broomfield is directing Whitney, a new Whitney Houston documentary coming to BBC Two. According to the network, Broomfield's film will detail "the forces that made and then destroyed the singer." A release date has not been set. Broomfield's most famous documentary, 1998's Kurt and Courtney, detailed the relationship between Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love, with a particular focus on allegations that Love had played a role in Cobain's death (claims which she has repeatedly, passionately refuted.) Broomfield faced legal action from Love over the film.Nick Ashford was someone I greatly admired, had the honor of knowing, and was the real-life inspiration for Cowboy Curtis' hair. I enjoy these types of documentaries. Many of us from the outside looking in only see all the glamour and excitement of being in the music industry, not realizing how many artists who experience massive success end up not being able to handle it well, and, even more difficult, trying to maintain it. When I was a kid, I use to dream of being a big music star and having the massive success of a Prince or Nippy Houston. If I were to become a music star today, knowing what I do now, I would rather have a mid-level career. Intenational superstardom ain't all it's cracked up to be. "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! Could be interesting. I never watched the Angela Bassett one. I recall hearing about the drug stuff with Whitney but I never believed she was doing something that was far and beyond what others have or was doing. | |
