Hey guys, I have always known about George Clinton and cohorts, but never really got into their music, until now and I just think they are completely nuts, but in a good way. Their music had a real vision and is really deep for the period.

All I have really seen and done so far is watched that 1969 (1970) video on youtube, where they are singing What is soul and a few other songs (There is a lot of acid there and is George Clinton the Mr T lookalike in the purple singlet?) Or Maybe Mr T stole his haircut and look off early George Clinton and added gold chains. The shit was so crazy and so cool, I had to see more. Then I saw the Cosmic Slop video which is even more bizarre including some brother with a dog mask on. This music is funky and scary in one. I have also watched the documentary and the Prince video of him inducting Pfunk into the Rock and Roll hall of fame.

I want to go deeper, not just knee deep so far, what would you hardcore Pfunk addicts and I know there are a few, suggest where to go next, any really essential albums for the new fan. I know sound daft and like I have missed the boat here as most of this music is like 40 years old, but it is very catchy and even now I only have one song of theirs "Give us the funk" off one of my funk compilation albums.

Any help would be great (And yes I consider Bootsy and Eddie Hazel to be amazing on guitar and bass respectively)

Awesome. I remember my first time getting into them. I would start with 1984's Parliament's Greatest Hits -Uncut Funk-The Bomb and get Funkadelic's One Nation Under a Groove.

http://georgeclinton.com/discography/ There's so much, it's hard to tell you where to start. I started with "Mothership Connection". My only advice is to take it slow, NewBooty. Too much of the REAL FUNK all at once, could definitely blow your mind. FUNK ON!

It's not a bad idea to start with a hits collection, see what moves you and then go buy those albums.

Parliament made most of the disco hits and usually have horns. Funkadelic is more guitar-based, and can be a lot weirder.

I'm mainly a rock and roll guy so I tend to listen to mostly Funkadelic. My favorite single album from start to finish is either Standing On The Verge Of Gettin It On, or, Let's Take It To The Stage. Those both have a few of my all time favorite songs, a nice variety of music, and are really solid albums.

I also really like the album "Osmium", reissued under some different titles with varying song selections, but you'd be looking one that has the songs My Automobile, I Call My Baby Pussycat and Breakdown, among others. It's under the name Parliament, but is more like an early Funkadelic album - filled with Eddie Hazel guitar.

I got into P-Funk earlier this year. Started with the compilations and then dipped into the albums. Took a bit longer to get into Funkadelic so still acquiring their albums. My favourite albums are Mothership Connection, Dr Funkenstein and Funkentelechy. The live album is pretty good too.

If you are just getting into P-Funk be sure to also try some of Bootsy's albums, Stretchin Out, Ah ... the Name Is Bootsy, Baby! and Player of the Year are also essential P-Funk to go with the Funkadelic and Parliament albums. If you only get one of those three, I recommend the Name Is Bootsy. That one and Player are great on vinyl too as the original albums were really nice gatefolds and included posters and cut-out Bootsy glasses.

Flashlight is the greatest funk song in funk history, period.

On a side note, Clinton stayed at the same hotel as I back in 2012. His vehicle had a Florida license plate: "WE FUNK"

I'm just startin with them, Margot Brain has to be their greatest song, as far i have listened to them (that's very little) their sound is crazy. Margot Brain, One Nation, Cosmic Slop,March To The Witch's Castle, Everybody Is Goin To Make It, America Eats It's Young, Can You Get To That and I Miss My Baby.

Wrong. The Goose (That Layed the Golden Egg), Red Hot Mama, Get Up For the Downstroke, I'll Bet You, Whatever Makes My Baby Feel Good, All Your Goodies Are Gone, (I Just Wanna) Testify and countless others are great songs. Remember, George was schooled in Motown. He learned from the best.
