Question about Otis Redding's death

I've always heard that James Brown sold Otis that plane that he crashed in but then I hear that James Brown warned him not to fly in that plane. Why would James sell it to Otis and warn him not to fly in it? Anybody know the real story here?

JB was the only soul star at that time with privet planes. Otis trying to get to that level wanted one too, so he bought one from James. JB told him it was faulty. Otis should have had it fixed before putting it to use.

JB at the funeral.

Identity

Pictured above is Ben
Cauley, former Bar-Kays trumpeter and the sole crash survivor. It took him over 30 years to return to the crash site. He died last year of natural causes.
