...and still no word on the status of De La Soul's kickstarted-funded album?

im curious, how do they get these kickstart albums released? since they had to raise money to make the album im assuming there are no labels interested in them, so what happens next?

TLC assumes all costs associated with delivering the final product to the sponsors. They can do it themselves or hire a third party to oversee distribution and promotion.

Not a fan of this whole crowdfunding of albums thing whether Kickstarter or Pledge Music. Too many artists take fans' money and give them no or few updates on the progress of the album that fans paid for and delay and delay the release. Would they treat a major label the way they treat their fans? I don't think so. Because this process is abused so much, I refuse to send any money for any kind of crowd funded album.
I know it may be frustrating for artists not to be able to get a label, but that doesn't excuse the way so many of these crowdfunded things are handled. Fans are being taken for granted and exploited and I don't agree with it at all.

Well my band just did it successfully so, it CAN work! But we had the record in the can already, had copies ready to mail days after the campaign ended. We just needed funds for pressing and a way to get it in peoples' hands. I haven't heard of that many situations where the band just took peoples' money and never delivered anything. Scott Weiland was on the hook for a bunch of autographed megaphones that people paid $700 each for, at the time of his passing. Who else has been in trouble for this?

Well I will agree on most of it, they should stay updated or at least stick to the promises at the start, however with the way streaming and digital works for 90% of the artists in the world, getting a nickle a stream is BS, and most of these artists would not get signed or anything at this point, already seeing alot of rock bands jumping on this, though a label like Frontier right now is front and center for them, still many can't get proper payment on their work. Van Hunt, Anna Nalick, Elle Varner and others are lost on labels if they can even get the records released. In a few years when NEW fillms are not in theaters but being streamed, watch actors do the same shit "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

What about the unreleased Music they left behind in the LaFace vaults? I know it belongs to Face/Reid but why not work a deal with those 2 Rich Bruhs and get some of their old unreleased material released to the Public...

I'm not interested in an album from them either way. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

This cd will be a flop without original producers and left eye. The magic is gone. Great group...but they will never be the same. I still listen to their music on the regular and always will.

I don't think they would sell that much even if Left Eye was on it. They're an old group, so they're not likely to get on radio stations that would get them a hit. They've been away too long on top of that. At best, TLC might get airplay on the urban contemporary stations. On the local one, when they do play TLC, it's never songs with a Left Eye rap on it. So she would not make a difference there. As far as the producers, when was the last time Dallas Austin or Babyface had a hit single on the Top 40? You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I've said this before: Prince should use this strategy for all of his future albums He would be able to record and release new albums without the help of a major record company...no "middleman" at all....isn't that what he really wants?

..LOL...You know they gotta have some unreleased 90's JAMS....They were at their vocal best back then and Producers vibed with them...I wanna hear what was not released...

[img:$uid]http://i.imgur.com/EfF4YU0.jpg?1[/img:$uid] TLC fans are getting new information about the album that Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas are working on after launching a Kickstarter campaign to fund their final album.

TLC have already been touring. They played my city earlier this month with a full band and dancers, with T-Boz and Chilli meeting VIP fans. All around awesome (from what I heard, I couldn't be there).

for real, I mean, who wants to crowdfund a shitty album? I mean, who wants to say that they helped fund a piece of shit album?

You have a VERY nasty attitude! Do you have anything good to say about anybody? will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that wasn't of this earth, would not have been that surprised. R.I.P.

Well releasing unreleased tracks is one thing, but getting their fans to help pay for an album that will probably turn out to be shitty is another. They should have pulled a Led Zeppelin move and disbanded after Left Eye passed away. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

yikes, please ignore me if you don't mind.......it is bad enough (as others have already stated) that anyone has to actually read any of your comments on this website

You sure are negative about nothing. There's no horror. The question is sales and urban contemporary does not generate bigger sales or more popularity, Top 40 airplay does. A Top 40 act also gets more media attention (which is more promotion) than an urban only act. Why do you think people try to crossover? Michael Jackson's Thriller wouldn't have sold anywhere near the amount it did with only the R&B audience. Urban contemporary plays a lot of oldies. They're not primarily focused on new music like the regular R&B stations and Top 40, which is how an act gets a popular hit record, not one that is known to a smaller niche audience. Let's look at the Youtube numbers of music that was released in the last year or so, which is a good indicator of people knowing about a song, since in general albums don't sell the same as in the past as people often download stuff for free. . Songs primarily on urban contemporary: Jahiem ~ Back In My Arms 308,808 Vivian Green ~ Get Right Back To My Baby 1,075,373 Jodeci ~ Every Moment 3,816,804 Avery Sunshine ~ Call My Name 867,170 Jill Scott ~ Fools Gold 1,523,620 Charlie Wilson ~ My Favorite Part Of You 317,425 Tyrese ~ Shame 5,707,391 Kem ~ Nobody 999,454 Johnny Gill ~ Behind Closed Doors 1,453,878 Jazmine Sullivan ~ Forever Don't Last 845,918 Jazmine Sullivan ~ Let It Burn 4,453,469 Babyface ~ We've Got Love 616,549 D'Angelo and The Vanguard ~ Really Love 3,390,088 . Songs with Top 40 or R&B/hip hop airplay: Beyoncé ~ 7/11 304,799,180 Adele ~ Hello 1,091,994,982 Post Malone ~ White Iverson 99,604,331 Fifth Harmony feat. Kid Ink ~ Worth It 614,424,099 Rihanna ~ Bitch Better Have My Money 70,463,121 Fetty Wap feat. Remy Boyz ~ 679 132,310,633 Mark Ronson ft.
