As much of a P-Funk fan I am, I haven't really gotten into all of the P-Funk-affiliate projects yet sad

I'll start with those bands you posted, especially that one song! Thanks

By the way, I forgot to make a spot for Dog Star (Fly On) on my list. That song funks me up all the way. One of my fav late PFunk songs! cool

I dont know what I would remove, but there are two tracks missing here that should definitely be in the top 100...both from "America Eats It's Young"...'If You Dont Like The Effects, Dont Produce the Cause' and 'Everybody's Going to Make It This Time." Other than that... thumbs up!

Make it so, Number One...

"Games, Dames and Guitar Thangs" and "Rest In P" (by Eddie) are must haves. Don't forget the great "All The Woo In The World" by Bernie Worrell.

And we can add The Brides of Funkenstein to the list. I Got a Thing... is on Ruth Copelands first LP Self Portrait. Not easy to find, but if you do, you're in for a surprise. Most of it isn't funk, it's hard to describe, sort of a Kate Bush avant la lettre. It even has a bit of opera on it. (Madame Butterfly.) It takes some getting used to, but I like it. Especially when she sings about "North Sea wildness in my bones" on the opening track Child of the North. cool

I like the idea but as a lifelong fan and collector of every single P-Funk mainstream and side project, my list would differ considerably. Heck, I could do another top 50 at least from 1980 post their peak popularity. Here are some great tracks that come to mind quickly ...

Mug Push - Bootsy

Agony of Defeet - Parliament

Let's Play House - Parliament

Trompibulation - Parliament

Funk Gets Stronger - Funkadelic

Body Slam - Bootsy

Generator Pop - P-Funk All-Stars

Pumpin It Up - P-Funk All-Stars

Time - Bernie Worrell

Dissin for Dollars - Bernie Worrell

Hideous Mutant Freaks - P-Funk All-Stars

Last Dance - George Clinton

Quickie - George Clinton

Bulletproof - George Clinton

Do Fries Go With Dat Shake? - George Clinton

Hey Good Lookin' - George Clinton

Cool Joe - George Clinton

Party on Plastic - Bootsy

First One to the Egg - Bootsy

Tweakin' - George Clinton

and many more right up through most recent Funkadelic and Bootsy albums

If you've got funk, you've got style.

Definitely down with you for George's Tweakin'. That tune is just insanely good.

What about Bootsy's double album, Blasters of the Universe where you get different mixes of the same songs on each disc? That was a badass concept right there with styles that were all over the place and some of the last work Eddie Hazel ever recorded. Good stuff.

Yeah, I'm going to agree on "Blasters". It has some really good moments on there. And "Hideous Mutant Freaks" is the jam!! That would have fit right on a P-Funk record in the late 70's/early 80's.

I used to think that until I really started listening to the newer stuff.

While the main stay classics remain the 1970's material as far as the hits go, the better "non" hit material is from the 80's farward.

I've just listened to GD&GT again and not one song stuck with me neutral

It appears to me that Eddie was a terrific guitarist and Maggot Brain might as well be the greatest guitar solo ever, but a songwriter... eeh let's say I have my doubts about him

Rest in funk, Eddie

That's exactly what I thought about this album. A great guitarist isn't always a great songwriter. Just listen to a Keith Richards solo album... Although Big Enough from Talk Is Cheap has Bootsy, Bernie and Maceo on it, so I think that qualifies as a P-Funk track!

Besides Bernie Worrell and Eddie Hazel, the band member that shaped the PFunk sound and never seems to get any credit is Junie Morrison...he was the lead singer and keyboard player for The Ohio Players in their early prime (Ecstacy, Pain, Pleasure, lps)...when he joined Parliament/Funkadelic in 1977 and helped make stuff like "One Nation Under a Groove, Aqua Boogie, Knee Deep, etc), it took their funk to a higher, tighter level...people missed it because he used the name J.S. Theracon with PFunk...i never knew it was the same dude that sang lead and played on joints like "Funky Worm" with The Ohio Players till years later...when dudes like him and great pocket drummer Jerome BigFoot Brailey left the crew because George was funny with the money, it was a wrap for George ... that Atomic Dog joint which was a smash hit, was garbage to me...
