What about the mixes on the original printing of the LP that had the orange Epic label? Some of the songs were remixed and the remixed version has been in print ever since. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

LOVE "Emergency!" BANGIN' album from back in the day! I always liked the little Rock guitar flourishes on "Misled" and on the funky title cut TOO! Hungry? Just look in the mirror and get fed up.

. BBR's dedication to the Pointer Sisters is amazing! They finished reissuing the last of their Sony catalog a while ago. I can't believe they're now releasing a greatest hits from 1982 so that they have somewhere to put a B-Side that they couldn't get cleared for the project it belonged on - "American Music" B-Side "I Want To Do It With You" from the "So Excited!" era. There are so many Pointers compilations out there that I would be surprised if this sold well for them. A few of their diehards on Facebook will pick it up I'm sure but if you already own their other Pointers reissues I think this will be a hard sell.

Oh, I'm sure they tried to clear that track as an inclusion on the "So Excited" reissue but RCA wouldn't clear it. But, now they are clearing it for yet another Best Of package, hoping that folks will bite just for that one track. RCA is trying to make as much money off the Pointer's catalog as they possibly can can. [Edited 2/11/16 12:51pm] "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

. Haha I see what you did there. Yeah I think I remember it being addressed back when the "So Excited!" reissue came out. For whatever reason Sony didn't clear the B-Side for that title. . Maybe that '82 compilation was the LP that started the Pointers love affair for whoever at BBR is so passionate about them? Other than sentimental reasons I can't see why they'd go with that compilation. Every track on there has been available on multiple CDs over the years. . Hopefully they fix the tape error that's at the start of "He's So Shy" that was present on both the Wounded Bird reissue of "Special Things" and BBRs. I am fairly sure I don't hear it on other comps that the track appears on. It would also be good to have a master tapes version of the "Special Things" B-Side "Movin' On" but I guess no tape exists as both Wounded Bird and BBR used vinyl. . [Edited 2/12/16 16:09pm]

Hmmm. I didn't realize BBR used a vinyl rip for "Movin' On". I thought I listened to it rather closely. If they used vinyl, they must have cleaned it up because the Wounded Bird version was quite obvious because they included all the "snap, crackle and pop" from the beginning to the end of that song. So I think you are right. There is no available mastertape for that particular song. Or maybe an individual owns it and was asking for too much money for it's usage. "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! . It was unusual that Wounded Bird went to the trouble of having the master tapes retrieved and transferred for their "Special Things" reissue (The album had never been on CD before) but not the "He's So Shy" B-side "Movin' On". It can only be assumed that the master tape for that particular song was not in the US Sony vaults. I am sure BBR used the Wounded Bird CD for their reissue (With additional EQ / increased volume) because of the slight error at the start of "He's So Shy" that appears on both CDs. And why pay to have tapes pulled and transferred again when you can use an existing digital source for the cost of a CD? The UK Sony vaults can't have contained the tape for "Movin' On" either because I'm sure BBR would have gone to the trouble had that been an option. The Wounded Bird vinyl transfer of the song sounds atrocious so I appreciate that BBR rectified this, but if you go back and listen closely to the BBR version, it's definitely vinyl also. . "Movin' On" is definitely owned by Sony, not an individual. It was on the Planet Records US 7" for "He's So Shy". RCA purchased the Planet Records catalog in 1982, RCA became BMG in the late 80's who merged with Sony in 2004. It's a miracle Sony still has the master tapes that it does after so many ownership changes!
