Rap sucks (Well modern chart rap)

Already, the 5th time in as many years. Why is commercial rap music still popular, has this shit not done enough damage to our race, all this swearing, materialism, drugs and violence, glamourising bling and reducing women to the status of objects and receptacles. Not to mention the stereotypes and buffoonery it espouses.

.

People who love intelligent and conscious rap, don't get annoyed. I mainly refer only top 3 main types of rap, and that is the rap on the charts, namely.

.

1. Ho/sex Rap - Songs with dirty and sexist lyrics, where women are called bitches and hos, guys sing about having sex and females sing about getting it, big asses or anacondas. Worst offenders Nicki Minaj, several male rappers like Florida, Lil Jeezy, Lil Wayne.

.

2. Trap rap/drug rap and guns - Basically modern rap that glamourises drug use and production, selling drugs, being in a trap (Drug usually meth or crack house), shooting rival gangstas and drug runners) - Gucci Mane, Plies, Lil Flip, Migos, more than I can name, dirty south and crunk rappers.

.

3. Rap Dance songs - The most successful and annoying but least damaging, still annoying as hell, shit like Dougie/Berney/Nae Nae/ Whip/Duff/Bop etc. Dumbed down made for a buck crap and videos full of men dancing like idiots and women shaking their ass. Songs with one word repeated and repetitive beats/syllables. Offenders, several one hit wonders, Silento, Migos, etc.

.

People we need to stop buying and listening to this shit, it sets us back into the dark ages and makes us look like fools. This music is made to merely make a buck and the lyrics of most of these songs pretty much insult everyone possible except the actual rappers/artists.

.

Also the crass materialism is stupid, most of the fans of this music can not afford brand name clothes, jewellery and cars and more than a few will try and steal it. Also these brands like Versace etc do not care about people buying their overpriced shit. Most of us can say its only music and art, but music ain't art, its a product, that you choose to buy. The artists do not owe you anything, you choose to buy it and that is why you should stop buying and promoting this shit.

.

I am sure many white folks and people outside the USA get tired of these images and many of us must think when they turn on TV and see guys talking about, smoking drugs or doing some retarded ass dance called the nae nae or whatever, they must just laugh their head off.

.

Please respond, but no abuse, try and agree/disagree with what I say rather than me saying it.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Never understood the appeal of RAP. Street poetry to a beat, Boooring. Half the time you can't even understand what Rappers are spewing into the mic.

Well, as usual I am entertained by your posts. I don't hate rap, I like a good portion of it but not all of it. I have a few favorite artists but I think most rap acts are just one-hit wonders anyway. Very few of them have staying power because the genre shifts every few years or so but for a time there I was thinking that bling rap wasn't going to disappear but thankfully there's "nerd rap" on the rise (think: Kendrick Lamar) So, I mean yeah there could always be improvements made. I mean there was a lot of conscious rappers that were mainstream hits in the 90s (Public Enemy comes to mind) but that faded off though

What does your first sentence mean? What is the 5th time in 5 years?

As for me, I have always enjoyed rap particularly the fun songs. Never cared for gangsta rap, but do enjoy the occasional sex rap.

I bought the idea up in early 2013 in a thread called "Why is gangsta rap still popular" or something like that. Also I have had some anti rap contributions in the Worst song of 2015 thread.

.

Also I mention the song - So cold in the D as the hottest ghetto mess ever in another thread.

I have an ongoing issue with any form of music that basically makes it's performers and racial group look like thuggish buffoons.

Yeah well rap didn't start out that way but the industry has pretty much zapped rap music for its soul and left it for dead. You have to do some diggin to find the best artists though

I've never been a fan of rap music. Even when I was younger, I thought it was ridiculous how childish a lot of rappers were. Talking about how much money they have, how many women they've had sex with, how much drugs they take etc. Its like listening to a "difficult" 12 year old child trying to impress his schoolmates. And if I'm saying it sounds childish, then it must be REALLY childish because I'm the most immature person I know.
A few years ago though, a friend of mine turned me on to Common and A Tribe Called Quest. For me, there's a world of difference between the music of Common and say, someone like Eminem, who I actually thought was a Weird Al style novelty act until I seen an interview he did where he took himself very seriously.
So, not all rap music is bad. Just the childish element of it.

i actually like some rap ,but i prefer listening to different ones that have been mixed together rather

than a whole cd of just one person,i think the edited radio versions sound ridiculous but thats all part

of the music industry, i dont differentiate between the so called 'serious rappers' or the chart stuff

because they all end up 'selling out' anyway as they have done since pop music started. i think rap

is on the way out,its had a good innings but all these genres have a shelf-life.

Yeah I just LOVE Common....he's dynamite (and sexy too!!!) Also love Tribe Called Quest. There are a lot of other rappers out there too that are good. Check out Yasiin Bey (formerly known as Mos Def) and there's also a relatively new rapper out called Logic. He's great! There are a lot of good ones out there you just have to sort through the bad ones I guess...

I dunno, I think the industry will manage to keep rap around for a lot longer than you think because it makes them a lot of money (on the surface anyway)

I used to be a fan of NWA and Ice T when I was 13, but at 16 I got into 2pac, Biggie and G Funk, by 19 I had grown out of it.

.

These guys at least had talent, the subject matter was rubbish, but the flow, use of words and rhymes were banging. From these masters the new breed has merely taken the repellent lyrical material and added substandard beats.

.

No one could compare the dope MC's and rappers you guys mentioned of the 1980s and early 1990s next to stars of today. Does anyone like these guys.

.

Nicki Minaj

Kanye West (Post 2008 output only)

Rae Smmurda

Silento (I know he is a 1 hit wonder, but what a hit)

YC

2 Chainz

Lil Wayne

Future

Any rap dance group

Migos

Gucci Mane

Plies

and so on

.

These artists are just all minstrel show actors, modern day coons shucking and jiving and making us all look stupid.

.

AND PLEASE DONT TELL ME, Oh your got their names wrong, thats not how you spell it it! I don't care and is it not ironic, that rap, a genre of music known for its destruction of English language into a see of deliberate and ignorant illiteracy should be telling us how to spell correctly.

absolutely, by design......when the U.S. Gov't granted freedom of speech to explicit lyrical content in music, that opened up pandoras box and gave opportunists the green light to take an entire genre of music, exploit its influence on youth (even though it was created by grown ups), and reduce it down to the least common denominator to reap billions from it

what we see now is not what it was meant to be

this may very well be the last musical genre we'll ever see born

They were saying the same thing in the 50's with Elvis and others.

And what about the drug-filled song titles and lyrics of the 60's and 70's?

Rolling Stones singing "Sister Morphine", Velvet Underground singing "Heroin", Eric Clapton signing "Cocaine", Jefferson Airplane's "White Rabbit" ... there was a tremendous amount of mainstream music pre-1980s that promoted drug use.

Everytime someone thinks that something was "the beginning", they need to look back a bit further. Nothing is as original as it appears to be.

big difference because with the exploitation of Hip-Hop, antagonists found the perfect tool to degrade an entire genre of music, and afflict the minds of our youth as a whole for the past 3 decades wehre the way it's been presented, our youth have been misled to believe this music is a representation of our culture and our community and it's not
