Tori Amos - "Boys for Pele" 20 year anniversary

Today is the 20th anniversary of Tori Amos' 3rd album "Boys for Pele". I wanted to share my piece about it, as I remember from prior discussions that there are some Tori fans here. I'd also love to read any reflections or thoughts from fans about this album. I know it impacted a lot of people.

Tori's run of albums from Pele-Choirgirl-Venus-Scarlet's is one of the strongest, most consistent run of albums by any artist ever.

Tori's amazing.

Tori's amazing.

Boys for Pele was the last album I got from her then I moved to another country and absorbed myself in different types of music and kind of forgot about her. The next 3 are worth picking up?

Change it one more time..

amazing album, superb b-sides. can't wait to hear what else is among the extra stuff.

this one and choirgirl are so beautiful and contain so much. they're like eco-systems
on their own, with their bsides and mixes. i cannot praise them enough.

and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

I got this beauty on vinyl 3yrs ago, but can't wait to for re-issue and deluxe versions.

This album is followed by her probably most intense Tour - Dew Drop Inn 1996 / bootlegs from that period are insanly good, her voice, solo perfromance showing what a FIRE is this women when she is alone with her piano...no one, but NO ONE can come close to her on that point.

Her matured very well with post 2000 period. Album Scarlet's Walk is one of a kind.

never ceases to amaze me live...if you don't know Tori LIVE, believe me - you don't know nothing. She is born to play it live...one performance from november 2015:

To me, From The Choirgirl Hotel is the best album she ever made. Stunningly beautiful, gut-wrenching and heartfelt.

I suppose they are worth picking up if you like Tori generally. I think you already have her essentials with the first three albums.

The studio disc of To Venus and Back is actually one of my favorites too though. I really love this foray into electronic music--much more than when PJ Harvey tried it on Is This Desire?. The song "Datura" may be Tori's trippiest ever.

I could never get into Scarlet's Walk. I don't find many of the songs immediate at all and it goes on for way too long. Oddly enough, the EP of outtakes, Scarlet's Hidden Treasures, I think is pretty awesome.

And then there is the anomaly that is from the choirgirl hotel. Half of the album including "Spark", "Jackie's Strength" and "Raspberry Swirl" I consider to be some of Tori's best, but I have an inexplicable aversion to the other half. The particular mix of melodies and vocal arrangements on songs like "iieee" and "She's Your Cocaine" is like scratching nails on a blackboard for me. Most Tori Amos fans, as evidenced above, love this record though so perhaps you should ignore my review. smile

Thanks Sexton & Matty. I'm snowed in, so I'll do a little music shopping online.

Change it one more time..
