How can you see anything on a phone anyway? Too tiny, like those video game & calculator watches in the 1980s or the lyrics printed on a cassette label. I've never owned a cell phone and don't want one.

Come on....these days,everyone needs to have a cell phone! What if you're alone and in an emergency? Pay phones are pretty much nonexistent these days.

Most Amish and traditional tribes today live just fine without them and so have people for thousands of years. I live in a city, not the woods, so I'm not far from anything. Where my grandmother and other relatives in the country live, cell phones don't work in most areas because there's no towers. They seem to do well. Even if they did work, they're too far from anything for them to be any real help, they're really rural. The population is 400 something today, which is around 200 less than when I lived there. If your house catches on fire, you're out of luck. The nearest fire station is at least 10-15 miles away and it's volunteer, so there's usually no one there. And who knows where AAA comes from, probably 25-30 miles away, where the larger town is. The closest grocery store is about 17 miles from her house, but there's a small store about 5 miles away, but they don't carry much and it's more expensive, it's like a slightly larger Stop N Go.
