GLENN FREY EAGLES GUITARIST DEAD AT 67

EXCLUSIVE

0117-glenn-frey-getty-01Glenn Frey, a founding member and guitarist of the Eagles, has died ... TMZ has learned.

Frey had been battling intestinal issues for months and had surgery in November. We're told in the last few days his condition took a turn for the worse.

Glenn co-wrote and sang most of the Eagles hits, including "Take It Easy," "Tequila Sunrise," "Lyin' Eyes," and "Heartache Tonight," to name a few. He also co-wrote "Hotel California" and "Desperado" with Don Henley and took home 6 Grammys with the band.

After the Eagles' 1980 breakup, Glenn launched a successful solo career, recording numerous hits ... most notably "The Heat Is On" and "You Belong to the City."

Glenn also got into acting, snagging a recurring role on "Miami Vice."

He reunited with the Eagles in '94 for their monster Hell Freezes Over tour and recorded music till the end, releasing what would be his fifth and final solo LP, "After Hours," in 2012.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer had been fighting intestinal issues for awhile but his condition relapsed before the holidays, forcing the Eagles to pull out of their Kennedy Center Honors appearance in December. At the time, the band said he needed major surgery that would require a lengthy recovery.

Glenn was 67. RIP.

Jesus, I feel like every time I return to this site I have to find about yet another legend that passed away...

I've been a huge Eagles and Don Henley fan, seen them two times in concert and their performance was impeccable, almost as good as on record...

Man, this sucks...Bowie, Lemmy, Natalie Cole, Glenn Frey...and were only half-way done with January...

Wow, I am shocked by this. He died of the exact same thing my mother died from. Very sad. At least he is no longer in excruciating pain. RIP Glenn.

The Eagles were suppose to be part of the Kennedy Honors line up but the other members cancelled saying that they would wait till Glenn got well.

One of the legendary members of the Eagles, but he had a pretty good solo career too.

RIP Glenn Frey. You will be sorely missed.

Ohh, nooooo.....
I'm very stunned and sad to hear of his passing.

The hit "True Love", Glenn's nod to Memphis soul , is my personal favorite out of all his singles. Rest in peace, brother.

Look y'all - I don't know how to say this, but the older we get, the more likely we are to die. And we're all going to die sooner or later.

The founders and stalwarts of rock and roll are almost all in their 60's, 70's and 80's. Same with funk; same with R&B; same to a lesser degree with country.

There's nothing "going on". There's no need for multiple eek eek eek eek . This has nothing to do with anything except that most of the greatest musicians of our time are advanced in age (not to mention most lived very, very hard).

Appreciate who is here; respect those who leave. But don't get all eek eek eek over these things.

Musicians always seem to die young. If you look at the Jazz world, it's filled with geniuses that went too soon. Now the same thing is happening in Rock 'n' Roll. It's like God wants them for His band.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

my intro to Glen was his solo stuff in the 80s and I enjoyed him. sorry to hear he went relatively young, but all that ailed him, sounded like he was in pain, so at least that's over
