One more thing, with the whole art is subjective thing in mind....

Lady Gaga is so damn fake. This is not a new opinion from me, I haven't understood her appeal from the jump. She is and always has been a performance artist. Sometimes performance art works, most of the time it doesn't. But for me, to my eyes and ears, all her tribute to Bowie did was show how effortlessly brilliant and untouchably cool he was, and how hard she has to try to be whatever she is trying to be at the moment. Needless to say, I wasn't as impressed as some other people seem to be by tonight's performance.

lol Oh please, we don't hate her but there was no reason for her to be there..period.They could have let George Clinton or Ron Isley give that award to Bruno since he already knew he was going to win it anyway. It would have been more fitting since they are some of the legendary soul funksters who inspired the song. Beyonce unnessarily interjects herself into things just because she craves attention.

Exactly. She's desperately trying to hold onto the spotlight, and her showing up just to present an award was all about self promotion. Just had to make an appearance so that ppl dont forget that tickets to her tour are going on sale the next day rolleyes

Anyways lets look at some REAL talent here, Janelle Monae and Bruno plus Jidenna!

Janelle & Bruno mushy

[Edited 2/15/16 23:13pm]

biggrin I LOVE them so much! They really need to date! razz They are so goofy when they are together (Bruno and Janelle) lol Janelle is a goddess! I love how they have manage to be successful without compromising their art and integrity. There still down to earth.

Loved LG's bowie tribute - fabulous - costumes, mannerisms, dancing and we all know she's got one hell of a voice - Bowie would be very proud. Would love to see her do a full tribute album.

Her tribute, IMO was not good. It was a sloppy mess, especially comapred to the one they did for BB King, which was much more tasteful. Why has she transformed into Bette Midler? I swear I thoought it was a tribute to her. eek lol

That was a disgrace to Bowie's legacy. She looked nothing like Ziggy Stardust dressed as Vegas Elvis with red hair.

Bowie's son even shaded her performance on Twitter. Good for him.

I miss the moments when AOTY winners were NO SURPRISES to the audience, like when OutKast won...

Kendrick would've given a fine speech.

The bitch Taylor Swift is one ungrateful fuck, she didn't even thank Kendrick.

I'm so angry cause I stayed up so late tryin to see Kendrick deliver a nice speech and kinda say Fuck you to all the ones that underestimate hip hop as a genre of music and then talk about black history month or something.

Again, what the fuck just happened neutral neutral

Why the fuck would and should she thank him? For appearing on a remixm, which he added nothing to?? GTFO with that nonsense. She deserved it.

Can't believe I missed K Dot's performance...

From what I've seen, the B.B. King tribute would be runner-up and Alabama Shakes taking third place for best performance of the night.

A distant fourth place would belong to the Lionel tribute, I suppose. The Glenn Frey tribute was serviceable but everything else was mediocre at best, unremarkable and amateurish at worst.

Too bad Lauryn and Rihanna didn't make it. The show could have used some classic talent and an artist performing new material. Anti could have used the publicity.

wow sad confused neutral. What a missed opportunity. Although I figured Taylor's, "1989" would win AOTY, I was rooting for "To Pimp A Butterfly" to win. Sometimes the Grammys remind more of the American Music Awards than the Grammys of old where artistic merit was valued more than total album sales.

-

I guess Kendrick fans could be happy with the fact that he won 5 awards (I believe, I didn't watch).

-

But if you let the Grammys tell it......

-

-

58th GRAMMYs Mirror Our Times

-

TOP WINNERS KENDRICK LAMAR, TAYLOR SWIFT AND ALABAMA SHAKES REFLECT THE CURRENT CULTURAL DIALOGUE

-

"In an era when much of the prevailing cultural dialogue revolves around race relations and empowerment, the big winners at the 58th GRAMMY Awards reflected that zeitgeist.

-

Compton, Calif., rapper Kendrick Lamar went into the 58th GRAMMY Awards as the most nominated artist (11 nods) since Michael Jackson and Babyface each scored 12 for 1983 and 1996, respectively. He took five GRAMMYs, including Best Rap Album for To Pimp A Butterfly, and Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song for "Alright."

-

His performance of "The Blacker The Berry" and "Alright," songs that have become unofficial soundtracks of the Black Lives Matter movement, infused the GRAMMYs with the kind of social currency at which it excels, whether it's celebrating marriage rights or honoring musical icons such as Whitney Houston.

-

Alabama Shakes, perhaps fittingly a multiracial band with a multiracial frontwoman, won three awards, Best Rock Performance, Best Rock Song and Best Alternative Music Album, all based around their acclaimed album Sound & Color.

-

Taylor Swift won Album Of The Year for 1989 among her three awards. Pointing out that she was the first woman to win that award twice, Swift was passionate about giving due credit to the contributions of women.

-

"I want to say to all the young women out there," Swift said, "there are going to be people along the way who will try to undercut your success, or take credit for your accomplishments, or your fame. But if you just focus on the work and you don't let those people sidetrack you, someday when you get where you're going, you will look around and you will know it was you and the people who love you that put you there. And that will be the greatest feeling in the world."

-

-

I guess that's going to be the official spin for Taylor's win. They made history last night by making her the first woman to win that award twice. So all minority groups should shut the fu** up about equality and fairness. Look, Kendrick won (5) awards, Alabama Shakes with the biracial lead singer won (3) awards, and a woman won AOTY twice. The Academy is proud. Go on and pat yourself on your proverbial backs. But you all know if you truly wanted to reflect the current cultural dialog, "To Pimp A Butterfly" should have won Album of the Year and Best Video for "Alright". But instead industry politics wins as usual. You threaded the needle by awarding Taylor/Kendrick for video of the year.

-

Oh and Tori Kelly was robbed too. The girl writes, plays and sing her own tunes. Oh I forgot, Meghan had the bigger hit singles.

Well he wasnt blasting her or calling her bad. She is a great performer so let's seperate it here! Its not hate, but there is a total double standard on this forum, if Chris Brown or say Bruno etc..dresses up like MJ does some MJ moves or something we get crazy over it. that was the issue I had with Lady GAGA last night, she was on point, I get her love and Idolization for the man, BUT I have issues dressing up like him and mimmicking his moves a month after he died. ALSO this was thrown together so last minute, grammy please with tributes can we please USE contemporaries not just people that idolize them. I mean Glen Frey's had all the Eagles plus Jackson Browne who was the dude with Linda Ronstadt that got them the gig way back, and Jackson and Glenn were close and stayed at the same residence. How about someone getting Iggy Pop for David Bowie? did that POP into anyones mind??

I mean what is next, if Elton John god forbid passes away, we get Justin Beiber or Justin Timberlake coming out in a donald duck outfit.

If you listen closely at around 1:05, someone says "This is so racist". If that came from the audience, the person must have been close to a mic.
