Cher, Pearl Jam, Meek Mill and Big Sean aid Flint, Michigan, but where are...

The Mayor of Flint, Michigan has called out the music heroes of the state to to help with the catastrophic water crisis there.

Cher donated nearly 200,000 bittled waters, Pearl Jam has donated 300k, rappers Meek Mill has donated and so has Big Sean (10k in bottled water).

The Mayor has specifically called on Stevie Wonder, Eminem, Aretha Franklin, Kid Rock and Anita Baker to aid the beleagured town about an hour from Detroit.

Where are the missing icons? Also Madonna, Iggy Pop, Bob Seeger, Smokey Robinson, Berry Gordy, Diana Ross, Magic Johnson, Alice Cooper, where are they?

Also two of the members of Midnight Star are from Flint. MI.

Everyone jumped to Live Aid to aid Ethiopia; people jumped to Farm Aid to help save family farmers, there was aid for Bangladesh, aid for earthquake victims, aid for Japan for the tsunami, aid for France after the terrorists attacks. aid for Haiti - where is teh cry for aid for Flint?

Is it because Flint, MI is 68% Black and no one cares?

Yes - all those celebrities you listed are racist
& that's why they aren't helping. Smokey Robinson,
Aretha Franklin, Berry Gordy & Diana Ross don't care
about black people.

It's all well and good for members of the general public to speculate or opine why this or that native son is apparently absent from the Flint water effort, but I don't think it's appropriate for elected officials who are tasked with representing the well being of their citizens to call out celebs after they so miserably failed to do the jobs they were elected to.

Even though she has only been mayor for a couple of months I still think that her time would be better spent ensuring that her constituents are safe and healthy going forward, not to mention assessing the damage already done to those who were poisoned and their future health challenges. Additionally she needs to make sure that those responsible are held accountable in both criminal and civil court.

I hardly think she has time for grandstanding as much as she has on her plate already.

Bottom line,..The Flint water poisoning scandal was man Made...Celebs choosing to help is GREAT but the Governor knew there was a problem with the water when General Mototors packed up and left stating that the water was Fucking up car-parts...That was the BIGGEST red-flag and Officials looked the other way....I will NOT shame or call-out Celebs for a problem that was caused by the Local & State Government...Yes, I hope Celebs donate but The Man-Made issue has to be solved by the Man who looked the other way...The Governor saying "he's sorry" is not enough...Governor Snyder came into Office like a Gangbuster trumping Mayors and declared HE was in charge...and we all know The Governor has Executive Powers that allowed it to happen...

I was thinking the same thing. But, perhaps some of those celebs have made contributions to help the Flint area since the mayor has asked for help and the media is just choosing not to report it? After all, anything about Meek Mills is going to make the news before Smokey Robinson. Or the celebs decided themselves to do something without the benefit of publicizing it? Diane and Stevie may feel like they don't have to report what they are doing to TMZ and posting it on Twitter. Those very well could be possibilities. biggrin

But, whatever the case may be, it's going to take a lot more than bottled water contributions and a few thousand dollars to help these folks in Flint. They are talking well in the millions of dollars just to fix the pipes. Not counting the medical care and benefits many of these people are going to need for the rest of their lives. All of that is on the Michigan government. And rightfully so. Hell, Aretha and Anita won't even pay the contractors that they hire without being threatened with lawsuits. What can they do for Flint? biggrin

Aretha Franklin Offering Hotel Rooms, Meals to Flint Residents
01/28

Aretha Franklin, the Queen of Soul, says help is on the way for Flint residents.

Franklin is looking to provide nightly rooms for 25-50 people at the Holiday Inn in Southfield with food and beverage provided by the nearby Coney Island.

Flint residents will be pre-screened at her father’s church in Detroit, New Bethel Baptist Church at a date to be determined.

"Detroiters usually come to the aid of Detroiters -- and Flint is certainly regarded as Detroit," Franklin said to Detroit'a Local 4 News. "Hang in there."

Sean "Diddy" Combs and Mark Wahlberg are also aiding Flint residents; they are donating 1 million bottles of water.

Tom Gores, a Flint native and owner of the Detroit Pistons, is pledging to raise $10 million to address the short- and long-term needs of his Michigan hometown, where the drinking water is contaminated with lead.

Gores said in a statement Thursday that he's appointed two associates to raise money from other business leaders and identify priorities in Flint.

Gores, who is chairman of Los Angeles-based Platinum Equity, also will contribute. He says Flint once was a "cornerstone of American industry" and that people "from coast to coast" need to step up.

--- A good question was asked How come Michagan artist are not helping? Who said they were racist? A even better question is why are so many artist today reluctant to get behind social cause? Partically when it comes to clean drinking water. Are people really that non-caring.
