Wow - thanks for posting that. I watched the 22-minute video with Ruth, introducing the highlights of her life that comprise the book. It is VERY interesting. She has had an amazing life (and has lived to tell about it!)... and the Pointer Sisters remain one of the most underated acts of the 80's. They came back and reinvented themselves, got Richard Perry to produce, and had hit after hit! They were simply electric -- and the clip not only inspires me to buy the book... but remember them for their sheer talent. Check it out, if you haven't seen the clip!

thumbs up!

Yup! Sounds like an interesting book that I will probably buy. I've never heard their full story. I'm really interested in the things that were happening during the height of their career in the early 80s. Despite having their biggest selling album with "Breakout", sounds like 1984 was a really rough year. funny how many artists usually struggle when they finally experience massive success.

Always wanted to know the story of The Pointer Sisters so I'll definitely be picking this up. Glad to hear that Ruth has found God and is at peace with herself.

I too agree that the sisters are underrated. They were one of the top (black) artists of 1984 with an impressive array of success prior and subsequently with an even greater array of albums as well as being one of the most versatile groups in all of music with a career spanning almost 50 years. Their success in 1984 alone should be enough but even then they don't seem to be a mainstay feature of conversation like other popular acts of the time.

I'd like to see Unsung do a show on them.

Here's a new interview with Sway

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton
