D'Angelo '1000 Deaths' Haven't seen much D talk on here recently so I thought I'd kick some off... by saying how much of a beast this song is! Hundalasiliah!

A combustible work of genius, and one of my favorite tracks of the decade. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

The live versions are killer, too. I'm praying a soundboard recording makes the rounds eventually. "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

I hate to admit that I just got the album on itunes a few days ago. Wow. I thought "Voodoo" was good...amazing album, and "1000 Deaths" is a monster! Make it so, Number One...

i wonder who wrote the lyrics, d' or mark? either way, they're great: I look up at this mountain and marvel
It stands so tall So tragically it's fragile I'm waiting for it to fall Enormous mass it's made of glass Instead of with a substance That's stronger U thought that it would hold me I can't take it any longer I'm gonna break out I'm gonna break out I'm gonna take All of my love back On the way out [REPEAT] I'm free now I'm gonna take All of my love back On the way out The fortress of our trust A mirage of a might mound I let U build around me Above me It seemed profound But much to my surprise It receives a little hit And it crumbles I'm leaning at the core No support All I can do is stumble [Chorus] A streak of light Exposes all the glass for stone This mountain Can no longer pass The confidence that we share Has been a facade I'm breaking out and Leaving only the shards Formidable The structure only looks I bust right through the glass One attempt and That's all it took I wanted to remain Feeling safe But it just can't sustain me It feels more like a trap Gotta break out Won't let it contain me [Chorus]

That song is the ONLY reason I purchased that cd. FOOLS multiply when WISE Men & Women are silent.

I totally slept on that entire album. Thanks for the heads up!

as much as i love d'angelo and 'glass mountain trust'. the record collection album, for me, was *all* about this one: and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

I had never heard of Ronson until the "D' joint but I have picked up his entire catalogue since. FOOLS multiply when WISE Men & Women are silent.

I'm in the minority here because 1000 deaths seems like a meandering, formless collage swirling around a half formed song. Well produced yes. Don't get me wrong - I like D'Angelo's music - just not this. Its one I skip.

Was about to reply to Cinnie's post about that one. Both songs are the reason why I love that album. I love the Afro beat sound.

It took awhile for this song to hit me, but once it did, it hit me hard. Monster. I just started playing this record again, for the first time in months, and it sounds like an album of straight up classics. "That's when stars collide. Truth be told, I'd always considered D'Angelo a one-trick pony -- and an overrated one at that. This track, however, knocked me on my butt and definitely called me to listen to Black Messiah with significantly less prejudice. Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου
