Bernie Worrell lung cancer

Extremely sorry to report, stage four. His wife Judi on Facebook says he wants to get his new record out now.

Christ, this is sad, is there much hope for recovery at stage 4?

Heavenly wine and roses seems to whisper to me when you smile...

Big Enough, the opener of that album (Talk Is Cheap) is a killer! The Human Riff coupled with Bootsy, Maceo and Bernie, that comes pretty damn close to my dream band. Speaking of Keef, he smokes like a fucking chimney (his own words). How come he survives everything and others suffer? But, yes, sad news for Bernie and his family.

There is a saying that following a nuclear holocaust, the world will be inherited by the only survivors -

Keith Richards and Lemmy.

Sadly, we now know that's not true sad .

Here's hoping Bernie can beat the odds and win through. The world needs as much funk as it can get cool.

Depressing news. Happy to Have (Happiness on Side) is my favorite Bernie song. Hoping he can pull through this.

Very sad, the man is such a massive talent. All his work with p-funk and beyond, his appearance in Stop Making Sense is fantastic... one of his most unexpected and weird appearances is on a Throwing Muses album! Two worlds I'd never thought would collide! Praying he pulls through

Bernie Worrell
Fights Cancer With Help From Launch of Crowdfunding Campaign

A fundraising campaign has been launched to assist legendary keyboardist Bernie Worrell with medical bills. Worrell has been diagnosed with fourth stage lung cancer, which has metastasized to his liver and pleural cavities.

The campaign goal, set at $75,000, will help defray mounting medical bills, expenses for aggressive treatment, much of it not covered by insurance, and other related expenses. The campaign is being hosted on YouCaring.com and can be found at this link:
www.youcaring.com/SupportBernieWorrell

Bernie Worrell is best known for his work as founding member and musical director for original legendary Parliament/Funkadelic and for his work with new wave band Talking Heads, as documented in the Jonathan Demme concert film Stop Making Sense.

His pioneering use of emerging keyboard technologies including the synthesizer, heavily influenced the sound of R&B music, with the likes of Dr. Dre and The Coup sampling his work, and set him apart from other keyboardists. It served as a bridge between American R&B and the insurgence of New Wave, New Age and Techno. He is known for exploring and expanding his own musical ideas in every conceivable direction with a brazenness that was both revolutionary and evolutionary.

The Star-Ledger notes, "It is arguable that no synthesizer player has made a bigger impact on the sound and feel of popular music than Bernie Worrell, " while the New Haven Independent proclaims, "Worrell is simply one of the most important keyboardists in the history of American popular music."

In 1997, Worrell was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame along with Parliament/Funkadelic. He has released several solo albums, collaborated with scores of musicians across genres, and most recently toured with the Bernie Worrell Orchestra.

A film entitled "Stranger: Bernie Worrell on Earth" was released about this life, music and impact. "The film captures the life and the sound of an overlooked and eccentric musical mastermind who has been compared to Beethoven, Duke Ellington and Jimi Hendrix." ---IMBD
