From understandimg even soap has animal products in it. Oh well.

Bleached white sugar is processed with bone char, depending on the company. Photo film & photo paper (that includes Polaroid instant film/pictures) has cow, horse, or pig bones in it and Jello also has bones in it, which is listed as "gelatin" in the ingredients. So anyone who goes to get photos printed is using animal products, even if using a digital camera.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Aretha's furs pale in comparison to the following:

Perfume, cologne, condoms, beer, sugar, crayons, nail polish, red candy. plastic bags, bagels, cigarettes, shampoo, conditioner, soap, fabric softener, tires, paint and paint brushes all contain animal ingredients.

You've got Google--look it up. The fact that animal-derived products are all over the place shouldn't be surprising to anyone--and if you really care about the issue, you'll want to look into it. My guess is that some of the things you find won't bother you as much as others, at least in part because some animals "count more" than others. Snail shells versus horse hooves... I'm not bothered by eating one, but the other grosses me out and feels seriously wrong. But I know I'm an inconsistent hypocrite, descended from a long line of opportunistic omnivores and occasional cannibals (like all the rest of you), so compared to them I'm doing pretty good.

And on the subject of the thread, Aretha Franklin can sing, and Carole King can write, and Barack Obama can have a fine old time at these events. Let's hear it for everybody!

I do love that it looks like she showed up 5 minutes late, walked on stage coat, purse and all, sing the shit out of the song and then put her coat back on and left the building.

I finally watched The Kennedy Cneter Honors over the weekend...CeCe Winans is always in Great voice and she did a superb Tribute in song to The deserving ICON Ms. Cicely Tyson. "Blessed Assurance" is an all-time Gospel Classic..The highlight of the 2hr show was the Final tribute to Carole King...The Chick that plays Carole on broadway has a Good voice and sounds just like a younger version of The Legend. The Icing on the cake was when The Queen of Soul stepped to the piano drapped in a long azz Fur (Only The Queen of The Female Singers can get away with that)..Aretha can play "Natural Woman" in her sleep..She's just Bad to the Bone like that...I had to bust out laughing when she began to take that Fur off...LOL...The Audience had to stand cuz she was giving them Voice & Drama...Aretha works the Hell out of her head-voice and her Lower register...She's pushing herself to hold notes and to soar even higher...Aretha is still a Magical Singer...I don't think today's Singers will have careers as long as Aretha's....I hope that I'm dead wrong...What Aretha and her Legendary peers have does not exist in the Younger Generation...With that being said "Hope" is still a real thang...

ROLLING STONE MAGAZINE salutes Aretha, as there appears to be a renaissance into the soul queen

On a side note, it is amazes me how many people don't realize she plays piano

I could be mistaken, but the last time ReRe was seen playing the Piano in front of Millions was during her appearance on Murphy Brown 1991....Years ago @ The Essence Awards People were excited to see Roberta Flack on piano Tributing Alicia Keys.....Sometimes I think people forget Alicia can play the piano..
