Valentine's Day R&B Concerts have been very profitable for years...It's a great gift for a Bruh to give to the Love of his Life...

Has anyone noticed that, with the exception of a handful of acts, all of these performers go back to the 1990's or prior? You sure won't see any current R&B stars like Chris Brown, Trey Songs, or August Alsina doing these types of shows. I wonder why? (Could it be that lyrics like "I'm gonna eat your ass like groceries" aren't the type of words that get people romantic?)

I know the girl who sung most of the songs had gotten married and wasn't performing with her siblings anymore in the early 2000's. Don't laugh at my funk

They're not oldies acts yet It's usually veteran acts who might not have a recording contract who do this type of package concerts or boat shows (ig. Tom Joyner Cruise) You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

yeah, there was some drama there.I saw the ad for an upcoming show featuring the Jets, and only three members are shown.I guess they are now a trio.

Every year around Valentines Day in my area,we usually have a big concert known as the "Valentines Super Oldies Love Jam".It features artists like Tierra,Blue Magic,The Delfonics,Heatwave,Rose Royce,etc.....truly great acts that had hit records in the 60s and 70s.This year,we are not having a show like this Instead, this is what we are getting.....
I will not be attending this concert. The line-up is whack!! Vanilla Ice?! Tone Loc?!
I have no problem with Jody Watley and the Jets, but the rest? I''ll pass.
This is the type of show that would probably work better in the summertime. It is NOT a Valentines Days show, that's for sure! Nothing romantic about these songs!

Oh lawd, Vanilla Ice....really. Yeah but some of those acts are cool, Love to see Young MC again and the Jets. Amazed they do these, all of these people would be at least 45 or 50 years old and it would sound funny them singing songs they did when they were 22 or 25. . Color Me Badd - didn't one of them die, used to love those guys back in 1991, but realise now they were corporate schlock, still "I wanna sex you up" is an amazing jam. But Sir Mix a lot, he only ready had the one hit. . How do they shows go? With so many artists, I assuming each does only 1 or 2 songs, each which would help the one hit wonders more. Imagining line up would go . Vanilla Ice - Ice ice baby, Play that funky music Sir Mixx alot - Baby got back and maybe also Put em on the glass CMB - Sex you up, I ador me amor and/or All 4 Love and the Moon and Stars Jody watley - Looking for a new love and one other song Tone Loc - Wild Thing, Funky cold Medina Shcok G - Humpty Dance and maybe another song Jets - Rocket to u and another song Rob Base - Don't know who he is Young MC - Bust a Move/Principals office and maybe "I come off" . That would be 2 hours of music easily with the banter and the "How y'all doing 2nite, y'all remember this jam from back in the day" and Maybe Shock G will saying some shit, like lets go back to 1990 and 1991 y'all, when the music was hype and the honeys fly" . Seriously I would go to that show and its one of the times I kick myself for not being the states.
Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

These shows start at 7:30 PM and last until 11:00 PM.Each act performs their biggest hit singles.A group like the Jets would perform "Curiosity",You Got It All" and "Crush On You"....so that's about maybe 15-20 minutes that they would be onstage. Some acts would probably get a little more time.Jody Watley has several huge solo hits ("Looking For A New Love","Don't You Want Me") but she may wanna perform a few Shalamar hits,as well.....so she may be onstage 30 minutes or so.It all evens out because,as you pointed out, some of the acts have only one major hit (Young MC,for example) and won't need to be onstage very long.

You are so way off base and all I can do is shake my Head...Mainstream Artists (including Legends) have had Valentine's Day shows....News Flash, even Movies about Relationships/Chick-Flicks get released during the Valentine Weekend every year...Entertainment usually comes with a Theme and Valentine's Day weekend is Profitable for Entertainment, period.....You are missing the whole point..

Its lyrics but also, no one really cares about them to be honest, in a live setting it usually takes 5 or 6 on a bill to come close to selling 75% of tickets. The older acts have been supplying MOST of the revenue of ticket sales, I mean if Billy Joel and Elton John and Bon Jovi stop touring the industry will probably go freaking broke. You could say that about some of the older R&B acts during their heyday. Sometimes there were 2-4 acts on a bill, maybe more. On a 1980s rap tour like the Fresh Fest, there were several acts. In the 1960s there was the Motortown Revue, Dick Clark's Caravan of Stars, etc. In rock, there's Monsters Of Rock, California Jam, and Ozzfest. Package shows have long been around. I am starting to think that Pacific Concert group are a Chitlin circuit booking agency. The 3 posters have 3 periods there. . Stand up soul vocal groups (Early to late 1970s) Disco sounding dance and soul acts (Late 1970s to mid 1980s) New Jack swing, R and B and rap acts (Late 1980s to mid 1990s). . Those 3 posters cover the bases. Sure Blue Magic and Floaters were only 1 hit wonders though. Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Alot of the ROCK ones are playing huge arenas though, alot of the new acts today are jamming top names togeteher to sell out smaller houses like a radio city or even smaller and not doing it. Case in point a few years back Beyonce and ALicia Keys same bill couldnt sell out MSG. The reality is that the vets are carrying it, and alot of what is keeping everyone afloat is LIVE revenue, once those guys decide to stop touring, trouble, even Jovi has said the long 16 month tours are over. Even pre-1990s, it was common for current R&B acts to have multi-act concerts & tours. Many of them couldn't sell enough to play in a stadium as a solo.

I love the Pacific Concert Group.I have been going to these 'Super Oldies Love Jam' concerts since the mid-90s.In the springtime/summertime,they also put on the 'Freestyle Explosion' concerts and those are alot of fun, too. What's really cool about all of these concerts is,you get to see all these great acts for a very affordable ticket price ($50).These days, most shows that feature one artist is gonna cost you at least $100.

LOL! (I actually did laugh out loud) Well, give it another 20 years and those acts that you mentioned will be doing those type of venues on Valentine's Day in the future. I think the only show I'd really wanna see would be Maxwell & Nas. Trolls be gone!
