I guess he's not going to be drumming much. . (PS - your link doesn't work.) Here's an article at Rolling Stone [Edited 10/28/15 14:05pm] You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Maybe he's going to make an album about the Alamo. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. Link is dead. I thought he physically couldn't play drums anymore?

He will be singing. | |

The Rolling Stone article says he recently had back surgery and the doctor says he should be able to play again. I don't know to what extent though. But he does says he can't play now, because he is asked about doing a Genesis tour with the Peter Gabriel lineup. His voice sounds different now, at least it did on the Genesis reunion tour. He can't sing as high. They had to change the key of the songs. I felt bad for him a few years ago when he apologized for his career. "Sussudio", "Billy Don't Lose My Number", " Two Hearts", "Take Me Home", "Only You Know And I Know", "In The Air Tonight", "Invisible Touch", and that slow song from that movie are nothing to apologize for

Admittedly his later music was boring as fuck, but he has made some very credible songs earlier in his career. RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

So many people have made a big deal about the comebacks of Janet Jackson and D'angelo but this is a comeback and the hype around his return is truly deserved and welcomed. None of Phil Collins' travails both personal and professional have been self-inflicted. His health issues have come from more than 40 years of constant touring and recording (especially in the '70s and '80s when labels issued more albums per year), drumming for his himself and Genesis and his VOICE is much welcomed. Man, pop music needs a veteran back on the scene. There needs to be a balance. I'm excited for Collins' return to music because pop music is a wasteland of pre-packaged corporate branding of pop stars and rappers. Not saying Collins will top the charts but Collins is a veteran music who still has something to offer creatively. 3121 #1 THIS YEAR

Phil was never really considered cool though. To the rock press, it's like saying Barry Manilow or Michael Bolton is making a comeback. Crickets. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

umm humm i luv me some phil collins this article by rollingstone is very interesting. : http://www.rollingstone.c...d-20151028 really like his vocal style. his raspy voice is so audio cool imo. i got introduced to the artist phil collins after he became more of a vocalist. anyway, so glad he's stepping back out. : plus i always thougt phil collins was a bit of a cutiecake, for some reason he looked sexy to me. plus he still got the cake factor in 2015>>>>

just wanted to push back a bit if only to ask for some clarity. so are you i would offer that de'angelo's comeback was protracted partly and perhaps primarily because his artistic process is and he's mercurial, the addiction issues nothwithstanding but a contributing factor. as with janet, are you suggesting that if there were no "nipplegate" her decline in airplay and sales would've never occurred? that's contrary to the pervasive "aging diva" theory that seems to have some truth to it because of artists with no "nipplegate" to speak of. so, of course like whom you will but it seems as if you're being dismissive and critical of artists you may not like in order to extend "credibility" to the return of one you do. I'm excited for phil's return too, just like i am for seal's but "veteran" does NOT necessarily equal credible and a POP star (AND a rapper) CAN have something to say even in the pre-packaged era you speak of.

The rather bizarre name "Sussudio" came out of Phil Collins' mouth one day while improvising lyrics with a drum machine. "I kinda knew I had to find something else for that word," he said. "Then I went back and tried to find another word that scanned as well as 'sussudio,' and I couldn't find one." And thus the world met a girl named Sussudio. The tune reached Number One on the Billboard Hot 100 and was all over the radio and MTV in 1985. It remains one of his signature tunes, but many critics felt the song was too similar to Prince's "1999." In the alternate universe of 30 Rock, Weird Al Yankovic wrote a parody of the song called "Soupsoupio." It's about a guy that really likes soup. after searching several sources, seems that all point to the above as far as the origin of the word/sound > "sussudio" “Transracial is a term that has long since been defined as the adoption of a child that is of a different race than the adoptive parents,” : https://thinkprogress.org...fb6e18544a

I can't wait for the new CD ! Go Phil!
On another note, someone wrote in the comments on Rolling Stone : "Phil, If you come back only to do tired ballads and drum machine stuff, it's not worth the pain your body is going to give you."

Warms my heart to see the reaction of folks on here...always loved the man, especially for his work with Genesis..but most of his solo stuff was pretty slick, too!
Hope we'll also see a proper Genesis reunion someday...and I hope he'll be able to kick some ass on the drums again!

Well, I've never found Phil Collins to be cute, but I reckon he looks better now than he did in his heyday. More.... distinguished.
It's hard to believe how omnipresent he was in the eighties. Here in the UK he is sort of held up as the embodiment of everything that was wrong with the decade, alongside Mrs Thatcher!
As for me, I'm not a fan of his music.... but I'm happy for everyone who is excited about his return.
Here... have a mash up of Phil, 2pac and Guns N' Roses:
It's been too long since you've had your ass kicked properly:

If Phil can do it, Bowie can. He gave up those nasty smokes a long time ago... "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato
