Get ready to be really angry: Critic Chuck Eddy's list of best 80s singles. Yes, I'm as pissed off as you will be. There is a reason this guy pisses off so many music fans. You have to admit, he has original taste:

Only one Prince song! You can name the great tune not on the list. Yes, that Spoonie Gee song sucks. All you others say Hell Yea!!

And the one Prince song is from 1979.

what? there are only two songs by Funky Four Plus One within the Top 25?? WTF?? [Edited 1/27/16 2:11am] Vanglorious... this is protected by the red, the black, and the green. With a key... sissy!

I played the remix to this about a month ago. Folks on this site are always negative about nothing. I probably wouldn't have many Prince songs on my list either. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

it's a very mixed list, ranges from pivotal mega-hits to obscure undergound stuff. some songs I love, some songs I like, some stuff I don't care for, some stuff I have never heard.

Prince owned the 80s. There should be at least three singles on that list. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

Eddy said Prince peaked after Dirty Mind. His later stuff was too jam band? Do you hear that? All you others say Hell Yea!!

Do you see me posting in the Prince section? I rarely look at it and the other sections not at all except the associated artists one, and that's mainly for The Time. The few times I did post, it was mostly in threads not directly about him like Prince & rap, this game thread, a R&B list (where I mostly talked about Elvis), and video games. That I can remember where I posted can tell you how often I did. There's nothing of interest in the Prince section (I really joined for the non-Prince music section). It's too negative & cynical for me, even more than the constant "today's music sucks" threads in this section. Why would I want to read that? If I want to read about Prince, I go to Princefams, although it's been mostly inactive after the site crashed a few years ago. I don't see anything wrong with the title. It says "best singles", not "best hits". A single does not have to be popular. As long as it was on 45 or maxi, then it's a single. Now if he put album tracks on the list, then that's different. Glad to see L'Trimm and Flipper on there! I'm sure there are quite a few I would think were essential that are missing but, I've seen way worse lists than that.

He hates Bjork, hates Radiohead, doesn't like later Beatles. Says Jimi was boring.
He thinks Poison is better than Iron Maiden, who he hates.
He does love Guns N Roses, who I like.
You all know how much I love Foolish Beat. All you others say Hell Yea!!

Why complain about some ones personal top 100 songs of the 80's (or any other decade for that matter)? No one is gonna agree about any ones list. Yeah I like alot of those songs, didn't know some of them, and yes I would have put more Prince songs on my list but that just me.

No, he hates Prince. He has not listened to any album since Lovesexy, which he dissed as a jam band album like the Grateful Dead.
He said he finds Prince boring. All you others say Hell Yea!!

That was their 3rd album though. Run DMC was doing that since the debut with Rock Box. Then King Of Rock even had a music video about a Rock Hall Of Fame, which was a few years before one actually existed. You always make note of predated stuff but don't recognize the tipping point for when it really happened.

Just because that's when it became a Top 10 pop hit and the white media noticed it, does not mean that's when it originated. It's not like the earlier songs were obscure or something. King Of Rock is credited as being the 1st video by a rap group to get MTV rotation. Other than the Beastie Boys, there wasn't much rock rap anyway until the 1990s. My point wasn't about when Rap was fused with Rock. I appreciate Chuck Eddy's list for listing songs when hip hop was still hip hop and not fused with rock.
