The Stylistics, hands down. Not only were they influential in popularizing the philly sound but their falsetto voices is undeniable. Stone in Love With You, You Are Everything, Rock n Roll Baby, Break up to Make Up, People Make the World Go Round, Heavy Falling Out, etc all classics, I find them to be incredibly underrated. They are my fav male vocal group! Love these guys!

You had to go there ? I love the Stylistics the songwriting , vocals impeccable. But I have to ride with Blue Magic on this one . We gonna come on with the come on, gonna get down with the get down!

Both groups had/have a falsetto as a centerpiece of their sound (Ted Mills and Russell Thompkins, Jr.) making them literally sound alike.

Your right.... but the Stylistics stand out more to me. At least their songs do. Blue Magic are great too but I prefer the Stylistics.

Very difficult to choose between the two so I gotta go with a draw.

I agree.
I would say that the Stylistics had one major advantage, though: their producer was Thom Bell.He supplied them with some truly incredible songs.

I would say that the Stylistics had one major advantage, though: their producer was Thom Bell.He supplied them with some truly incredible songs. And songwriter Linda Creed as well. Nevertheless I give the edge to the Stylistics. My mom was a huge fan and had several of their 45's. So I got an early education on the Stylistics as young as 6 or 7 years old. Don't laugh at my funk

Why are the Stylistics so underrated? I loved them growing up. Why are they not as respected as Temptations or Four Tops? The Styles have a ton of classics. I have always wondered that.

It's because the competition was so fierce back then.So many excellent vocal groups,all of them trying to dominate the airwaves....the Temptations,Four Tops,The Stylistics,Blue Magic,Chi-Lites,The Dramatics,The Manhattans,The Moments,Tavares,The O'Jays,The Miracles,The Intruders,etc.
Damn,we had so much great music back then!

Probably because they didn't have that long lasting effect as the Tempt and Tops. The Stylistics first chart hit was in 1971 and their last imprint on the pop charts was 1976. Meanwhile the Tops and Temps been hit makers since the early 60s and were even hitting the charts up until the mid-80s.
A better battle would be the Stylistcs vs the Delfonics. PRINCE: Always and Forever

yeah, I heard of the escorts. Another, but out a littler earlier than Escorts and Temprees was the Van Dykes. More in the vein of the Stylistics and Blue Magie with the falseto lead though.
