hey! Is it highly recommended?

i was not a huge fan of kurt cobain altho i liked his songs .... never bought an album etc ...

as an older guy now (50) i find that "druggie" thing depressing and never really got into him or his story so when he died ... while it was sad ... i just thought ok ...

i saw the documentary on HBO i think it is the one you talk about ... i too found it depressing and i think i only got thru 90% of it ...

on a similar note - I wasnt into Amy W too much .... liked a few songs ... didnt buy the album etc and I saw her documentary recently and loved it . It was ultimately depressing too but i have a new respect for her for some reason and yes i wanna get her albums ...

I was bummed out after seeing that movie for days.

It did make me like their music much more.

I barely watched the whole thing as I kept wanting to turn it off half way through. It was definitely sad and definitely not anything I want to watch again. The thing that disturbed me the most was how high he and Courtney Love were while handling their newborn baby. It was as though they were treating her like a toy baby doll. That mess was scary and I could totally understand why at some point their child was taken away from them.

If it makes you feel better, Buzz Osborne of the Melvins, who knew Kurt well in high school, says there is absolutely no chance that that happened in real life. The story is told as if it's a horrible confession but Buzz says, if ANYTHING like that had really happened in that school, everyone would have been talking about it, there would have been no way that he didn;t know about it, and it didn't happen period. He says that's just Kurt being an unreliable narrator of his own life, that he enjoyed winding people up and telling them stuff about his past that was totally untrue, to see their reaction.

I've heard a lot of things about that movie and I have no interest whatsoever in watching it. I tend to believe Buzz, that most of what's in the movie is bullshit legend-building kind of crap that no one would ever take seriously if it wasn't about a celebrity, and I've already felt enough human pathos toward that story and those people in the last 20 years. It just feels ugly and weird to me. I can't even listen to the demos that have come out as a result, and I like Nirvana a lot.

How could you have expected anything else?

I was going to post this. Courtney Love was not in his life during high school but even she said it could be fiction.

Well, it is Kurt speaking first hand in the first person and it's all mixed in with his art and perspective. I was thinking it could be just as dreamed up as the scribbler doodles they made come to life.

Yeah, it felt like a short story or a put-on rather than a real account.

Yeah! I don't take his lyrics as gospel, so I had no problem throwing that short story in the "abstract" bin.

Agreed. I saw that Buzz interview as well. And what he said, along with a few other things, are the reasons why i wont watch the documentary. For the most part, i don't really wanna to know anymore details of how tragic his life was. I just want to remember the good things about him and Nirvana.
