i was not a huge fan of kurt cobain altho i liked his songs .... never bought an album etc ...
as an older guy now (50) i find that "druggie" thing depressing and never really got into him or his story so when he died ... while it was sad ... i just thought ok ...
i saw the documentary on HBO i think it is the one you talk about ... i too found it depressing and i think i only got thru 90% of it ...
on a similar note - I wasnt into Amy W too much .... liked a few songs ... didnt buy the album etc and I saw her documentary recently and loved it . It was ultimately depressing too but i have a new respect for her for some reason and yes i wanna get her albums ... Colonel Angus may be smelly. colonel angus may be a little rough . but deep down ... Colonel angus is very sweet.

I guess it was brave to release just to demystify the 'Saint Kurt' bs that seems to have grown around him. He was one unhappy dude. It was well made but sheesh it's not a movie that encourages repeat viewings.

It is very well made, especially the cartoons. Kurt is made to look like a wussy jerk. I have sympathy for drug abuse, but he should have had more balls and got clean for his fucking baby. Yea, your a rock star, wah wah. Get a life.

Not a fan but I read the other day that his sweater sold at an auction for over $100,000 dollars.

I thought it was terrible the way it told of him taking advantage of that mentally challenged girl the way he did (having sex with her so he could lose his virginity) and then having to drop out of school because everyone was giving him hell about it. Truly awful that he would do that. It changed the way I think of him for sure. But besides that the whole thing was depressing and sad.

It did make me like their music much more. All you others say Hell Yea!!

I barely watched the whole thing as I kept wanting to turn it off half way through. It was definitely sad and definitely not anything I want to watch again. The thing that disturbed me the most was how high he and Courtney Love were while handling their newborn baby. It was as though they were treating her like a toy baby doll. That mess was scary and I could totally understand why at some point their child was taken away from them. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

If it makes you feel better, Buzz Osborne of the Melvins, who knew Kurt well in high school, says there is absolutely no chance that that happened in real life. The story is told as if it's a horrible confession but Buzz says, if ANYTHING like that had really happened in that school, everyone would have been talking about it, there would have been no way that he didn;t know about it, and it didn't happen period. He says that's just Kurt being an unreliable narrator of his own life, that he enjoyed winding people up and telling them stuff about his past that was totally untrue, to see their reaction.
I've heard a lot of things about that movie and I have no interest whatsoever in watching it. I tend to believe Buzz, that most of what's in the movie is bullshit legend-building kind of crap that no one would ever take seriously if it wasn't about a celebrity, and I've already felt enough human pathos toward that story and those people in the last 20 years. It just feels ugly and weird to me. I can't even listen to the demos that have come out as a result, and I like Nirvana a lot.

I was going to post this. Courtney Love was not in his life during high school but even she said it could be fiction.

I hope that that was not true because that was a hard part to watch (Or really, to listen to) during the movie- very cringeworthy. I would go back to liking and respecting him if it turned out that WAS false. But also, didn't his daughter help put this thing together? Shouldn't she have checked on this before she put something like this out about her dad? Maybe do some fact checking?

Well, it is Kurt speaking first hand in the first person and it's all mixed in with his art and perspective. I was thinking it could be just as dreamed up as the scribbler doodles they made come to life.

I saw the documentary a couple of mouths ago, I found it redundant and boring after the 1st 60 mins. I don't have any respect for fuck-ups who pull children into the mix.

Yeah! I don't take his lyrics as gospel, so I had no problem throwing that short story in the "abstract" bin.

Just watched that Amy doco and agree - sad but I immediately wanted to watch it again and it managed to intertwine her music and features it quite prominently. They got the balance right - Montage of Heck was too light on the creativity that made people interested in Nirvana in the first place.
