Following a slew of cancellations a few months back, D’Angelo appears to be back in the game.

He may have had to sit out what would have certainly been an epic evening with Bill Withers at Carnegie Hall, but now that he appears to be in better health (and holding 3 Grammy noms for Black Messiah in his back pocket) it appears we’ll be seeing his mighty funk & soul revue back on the road next year.

Today, he’s announced new tour dates in both Australia & Japan.

It should be noted, that the show at Byron Bay Bluesfest finds D’Angelo sharing the bill with Kendrick Lamar (amongst a ton of others) which could prove to be the perfect testing ground for a collaboration if such a colossal thing could even exist.

Tour Dates:

March 17 – Wellington, NZ – Arena
March 19 – Melbourne, Australia – Palais
March 21 – Sydney, Australia – Sydney Opera House
March 24 – Byron Bay, Australia – Byron Bay Bluesfest
March 26 – Byron Bay, Australia – Byron Bay Bluesfest
March 28 – Yokohama, Japan – Pacific National Hall
March 29 – Osaka, Japan – International Convention Center

All I can say is from experience be very skeptical when artists start tours overseas especially in Australia and Japan.

Why?

He gave a bunch of good shows a few years ago after his decade long hiatus, and after that (well, a while after that wink....) he did some shows in the US and released his brilliant album.

What´s wrong with starting a tour overseas?

.

PS: Saw him live during the Voodoo tour and during the Black Messiah tour, both were great but what I´d prefer right now would be a release of all those extra songs and planned EPs and whatnot that Questlove hinted at. Now that would be something !

Good to hear that he seems to be healthy again. I was a bit worried about him.

Exactly. I think it is great that he's out on tour, hopefully, we'll get more music. I'm sure he's feeling inspired again. Saw him in 2012 and earlier this year. Can't wait for his next stop here in Europe.
