Ok,here is my honest review of the song...

Lyrically, the song is really interesting and personal.I get the feeling that the album is gonna be deep and introspective.Musically though, the song is good but not great.I love the way it slows down on the chorus, and the acoustic guitar is a nice touch. For the most part,Madonna's voice is clear and not hidden by a bunch of electronic effects. She sounds great on it.But I get this funny feeling that perhaps Mirwais (who co-produced this song with Maddy) is running out of ideas. The song features the same elastic synthesizer sound that we heard on "Die Another Day" and some of the songs from 'Music'.But,still,I like the melody of this song. So,yeah it's a cool song but not one of Madonna's best or most innovative singles.I'd give it a B-.

Listening to it...
I say I like it.

PS; it is very like the previous album. L ike the flow of the singing. Her voice is getting better with all them lessons.
The rap is funny, but very Prince like in the Graf Bridge kind of way.

Won't buy it, like I had to have the Ray Of Light album. It has too many bleeps for me.....

Yeah, the rap is kinda funny. When she says "I'd like to express my extreme point of view",she sounds like the female Eminem...lol...

I have a question...does anyone know what happened to the world premier of the video?

I saw on the HBO website it was supposed to premier last nite. I kept flipping over to HBO, but never saw it...does anyone know if it was actually aired?

Nope, the video won't premiere until the first week of April ostensibly because Maddy had to go back and "re-work" it.Some of the more violent imagery is being removed, for obvious reasons.

What's your opinion of the song?

well, after two listens...the song is kinda schizophrenic, and I'm not sure if that's in a a good way yet. The techno elements do seem quite recycled and very DaftPunk sounding (are we sure they didn't produce this?) I like the guitar elements that are thrown in. I like the 'rap'. I really like that her voice is 'natural' in most of the song. The beat and movement of the song hasn't grabbed me yet, but that may be a good sign. I find it much better than "Die Another Day" As for being the lead-off single, I dunno, it doesn't feel like a radio song to me, we'll see what happens.

"You know I'm satisfied" but I can't say I'm excited by the song....yet wink

thanks again for always being 'in the know'!!

Oh shit, that rap lol I don't know if it's intentional
but she sounds out of breath half the time.

I kind of like the song but it's not something I will be
listening to two years from now. She's become much more
"instant" the last few years. It tends to make the music
a bit more "wash & go".

But that rap is going down as a classic. Really I was
cringing & laughing at the same time. oh god.

I'm slowly starting to like the song now. It's definitely more tolerable than Die Another Day. The rap kinda makes me laugh though.

I've been listening to the the song all day,and I'm starting to like it more and more. It's definitely a much better song than "Die Another Day".Her vocals are crystal clear this time, without all the electronic gimmicks and vocoders. The rap segment is kinda funny, almost as if she is mocking Eminem.

Right now,I really like the song. But,I'm sure I will LOVE it after a few more weeks.

Originally,Warners wanted the song "Hollywood" to be the first single.Supposedly, that track is more commercial and radio-friendly than "American Life".But of course,Maddy always gets her way.

I"m waiting for the actual release. I've found that I like hearing new Madonna stuff the old-fashioned way nod

The tiny bits I've heard though, on TV and radio, don't sound all that promising though. shrug

As far as a 'lead off' single...it ranks very low...It's not her best at all (when compared to "Like A Prayer", "Frozen", "Music" & "Everybody")...It's growing on me but it would've made a better 2nd, 3rd or NO single at all...it's catchy...the rap is intentionally silly...after a 100 more listens tonight...I'll get back to ya! LOL...

Yeah,I don't think this will be one of her grestest singles.Commercially,I think it will do just fine but,as you pointed out,it doesn't compare to past singles like "Like A Prayer","Frozen" or even "Music".But the more I listen to it,the more I like it.Can't wait for the remixes.

Sorry, not my cup of tea. Can we hear anything else than those damn skip-beats nowadays?

And sorry again, but this rap it sooo bad. If it's suppossed to be funny, alright, but IMO it wouldn't fit the
theme of the song and I wouldn't release it as a first single either.

I totally disagree.I think it's better than both "like A Prayer" or "frozen" even though it doesn't sound so much as a new direction for her as those songs were>Judging be the week it's getting released i think it stands an excellent chance of being her 11 #1 in the UK but probably it won't do well in the US thanks to the bloody war sad((

It sounds like Mirwais (the electronica synth and pitch bent vocals) meets the Neptunes (the minimalist beat and guitar plucking).
