MEET ME OUT ON THE ROAD: "THE RIVER TOUR" BEGINS IN JANUARY 2016
Bruce and the E Street Band celebrate Ties with 24 live dates

.
Christmas comes early, and Hannukah too... and happy new year above all, as official word comes down this morning that Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band will reconvene to hit the road in January, for performances through mid-March. The news hits on the same day that The Ties That Bind: The River Collection [DVD / Blu-ray] is released, and there's a direct connection between the two besides mere synergy. Bruce and the band are actually touring behind the box — something they did not do for the Born to Run or Darkness box sets — calling this nine-week North American trek "The River Tour."

.

Less than a month after Springsteen's December 19 appearance on Saturday Night Live — and 35 years after the original River tour — the 2016 River Tour will begin in Pittsburgh on January 16. Stopping in 22 cities, with 24 shows announced (including two nights at Madison Square Garden and two at the L.A. Sports Arena), the tour will take the E Street Band from coast to coast in the U.S., along with a show in Toronto.

.

While Springsteen began performing full album sequences in 2008, The River has been performed in its entirety exactly once: November 8, 2009, at Madison Square Garden. While no specific setlist plans have been discussed, we have high hopes for that 20-track feat to be repeated, along with live airings of 1979-'80 outtakes.

.

Perhaps an indication that Bruce will be downsizing the "E Street Orchestra" of recent tours for this 2016 outting, today's press release lists the E Street Band's members as Roy Bittan, Nils Lofgren, Patti Scialfa, Garry Tallent, Stevie Van Zandt, and Max Weinberg, with Soozie Tyrell, Jake Clemons, and Charlie Giordano.

.

The announcement also notes: "Each night of the tour will be mixed for release onLive.BruceSpringsteen.net as high-quality downloads and CDs. Recordings will be available within days of each performance."

.

Onsales begin a week from today, Friday, December 11.

Oh well, I hope you get to go to the tour. I'm aiming for cheap seats next to the stage--had the best view and time in the world last time I went. wink What's even better, after I saw Bruce & E Street in 2012, I was able to track down a great MP3 recording of the concert via one of his fan sites, and I listen to it to this day. Reliving the experience... Not like in Prince-land these days...

I hope I can see him. It depends on whether tickets + babysitter is somewhat feasible. I've only seen him once, and that was on his solo acoustic tour for Devils and Dust.

So do I. A lot of hard core Springsteen fans are highly disgruntled. lol I'm looking forward to it. I wish Prince would do this... BTW I attended Stevie Wonder's concert last year where he performed Song in the Key of Life (one of my favorite albums of all time!) in its entirety for the first time. What a wonderful experience it was... music

I wonder how much tickets to this show will be. I'm sort of trying to balance Springsteen tickets and a babysitter vs. sending my daughter to college. Right now the Boss is winning.

They are higher than when I went in 2012 but not that much for cheap seats, which I had last time next to the stage and I want the same seats this time. Albany venue seats are running like this for prices and it seems to be comparable to the local venue I want to attend:

TICKET PRICE SEAT LOCATION
$153.00 GA Floor; 101-110; 115-130; 207-210; 226-229
$108.00 111-114; 201-206; 211-225; 230-236; 244; Rows A-E in 237-243
$58.00 Rows F-S in 237-243

That's about ten bucks more for the cheap seats from what I paid in 2012 but then Ticketmaster has increased their service charges, too... razz Plus, my kid is grown and gone. LOL Good luck on getting tickets. wink

I'm sorry you weren't able to get them, but don't give up. In my experience with TM, they always release seats later on and more will pop up if you keep trying, even if they say the venue is sold out. If you really wanna go, just keep trying. I lucked out this time and got the same section and row I got to see Stevie Wonder in Oakland last year on the first try. But, others didn't. The Stevie Wonder ticket I picked up on TM literally two days before the show when I had given up and there it was. Cheap seat, row one next to the stage--great view in my opinion. So, keep trying and good luck. wink

What do you think about the news that Bruce is going to go solo again and put out a new album?

It's all good by me (although I'd prefer it not be another Nebraska/Joad/D&D). I lilke his "acoustic" work well enough, but it's always more fun when he paints from a wider palette.

How 'bout you?

The reviews on Amazon for this package are pretty bad, most complaints are from the price and qty of tracks. I like the touring and playing a certain album or two, this has been a thing going on for a lot of artists tours the last decade.

This new box set is one of the greatest box sets I've ever purchased. Those Amazon reviewers are just pissy about having to pay for some tracks they already owned.

Was there really a need to include the original album? The original single album (with the Clearmountain mixes) I could maybe understand.

It has the amazing remaster that was done last year. Isn't that only otherwise available in the box 7-album box set?

I was okay with repeat content (all of which I had already purchased) because this is a great collection for anyone who wants to understand The River in its entirety.
