COLDPLAY to play SUPER BOWL HALF TIME SHOW! The NFL mega-event will make a notable tour stop on the band's forthcoming trek across the globe.Coldplay will storm the 2016 Super Bowl stage as the annual NFL game's halftime-show performer, a source confirmed to Billboard. The news first was reported by The Wall Street Journalon Thursday. The British rock group — consisting of Chris Martin, Guy Berryman, Jonny Buckland and Will Champion — is set to make its halftime-show debut at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., on Feb. 7. The Super Bowl will make a notable tour stop on the band's forthcoming trek across the globe. Coldplay announced the first string of dates in Europe and Latin America earlier this month.Expect performances of songs like "Adventure of a Lifetime" and maybe even a Beyonce duet for "Hymn for the Weekend," from the band's upcoming album, A Head Full of Dreams, due Dec. 4. Per the Journal, the 11-track offering won't be made immediately available on Spotify upon its release, a move that chart-topper Adele recently pulled with her third studio effort, 25.Coldplay joins the likes of its collaborator Beyonce, Justin Timberlake, Katy Perry and Bruno Mars, all of whom have headlined previous half-time shows.

Ok, I don't know much about American football (or any sport, for that matter) but this is Superbowl 50 right? I would have thought they'd go with someone a bit more...lively? Is that the right word? Maybe less boring is a better way of putting it... Rolling Stones, Prince, Bruce Springsteen...Coldplay. Something doesn't add up here. Being that it's the 50th anniversary (I'm assuming the Superbowl is once a year) I think it should have been something special. They should go all out. Have a joint performance. Prince, Springsteen and The Rolling Stones. All 3 of them. On one stage. Fuck it, why not? While we're at it, stick Madonna and U2 up there too. Of all those acts, I only like Prince and Springsteen but it would make for a memorable show. A lot better than Coldplay, that's for sure.

Yeah, that doesn't excite me at all. "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

- You might be onto something here. Maybe not the bands you named specifically but everything I'm hearing and reading says Coldplay are the headliners for the halftime show. So, more than likely, there's more acts to be announced.

Coldplay are talented, but not something that will put to make that explosive wow factor. Party and Coldplay are two very different things. My Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/tundrah

If this were like 2003 I might be somewhat thrilled but nah, this seems like it will be a bore... Trolls be gone!

Wow I'm shocked Coldplay almost gets no love up here.... What was so great about U2's performance anyway? Besides the fact that their songs are classic, the performance itself was nothing extraordinary and the same goes for Springsteen. Imho of course. I have high expectations for this year though =)

Eh their first 2 albums are classics. X&Y is alright and hassome standouts. Viva La Vida is a great great album!Mylo Xylo has some standout pop/rock moments. But i don't really care for the album all that much. I liked the singles off Ghost Stories... restwas a bore. Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

I never understood theinsane hate Coldplay gets. Or why people hate on Chris Martin so much. I will happily be proven wrong if need be but he'salways nice and polite in interviews. Never seen him bad mouth anyone or get in trouble for doing stupid shit. I really don't know why people hate him so much Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

I only like some of their songs, which to me, are more exciting to listen to as I order my coffee in a Starbucks, but to have them perform the Superbowl? Snoozefest. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

- I had the same thought. I look forward to seeing who else is on the billing. Notice that Coldplay are listed as the "headliners".

I don't hate Coldplay (I'm far from a fan but I don't hate them) but they simply aren't Halftime Show material, especially for the 50th Super Bowl.
Someone else pointed it out but it's somewhat ironic how this group from the UK is billed as the headlining act for the milestone edition of an annual American event. They won't be performing alone, that's for sure.
