The Soul Train Awards are the best award show on television. I am glad they gave Best Soul R&B female artist to Jill Scott instead of Beyonce They give it to her every year and she doesn't even make Soul music

It may be the "We love thickness" thing gone bad... There is no standard of continuing to be slim and fit going forward..
Even some vegatarians on that stage were a little bigger than normal..
"Eating good..In the Neighborghood", and riding in nice cars all day...and not much excersise,,,Sitting in studios a lot. [Edited 11/30/15 5:45am]

- Didn't Nick Cannon buy the rights to the show a couple of years ago. If I'm not mistaken, this is his baby now.

^ Really had no clue... didn't know that. That probably explains why she has been winning every year and she doesn't even make "Soul/R&B"
LOL
No your not Although I do think old school hip hop is much better. The Bad boy tribute at BET awards this year was on point.
I love the Soul Train Awards because they remind me of a certain era of music that no longer exists anymore. If you notice, they had a lot of old school celebrities in the audience and of course it was nice to see Tevin, Brandy, Fanny and hell even Bobby. They just don't make music like that anymore

Classy show...I loved it, it was very entertaining. I was singing'We don't have to take our clothes off to have a good time-OH NO' I wish they will continue the trend for next year and so on...
Young entertainers take note..If you are really talented you do not have to degrade yourself to be noticed. Let your 'art'speak for itself and you will shine and be respected.
Respect yourself and others will follow.

I loved Babyface's set, but what is this Return Of The Tender Lover business?

Back in the day, you had all the BIG black pop stars at the Soul Train awards. Michael, Janet, Whitney and Prince attended the shows (and even performed at them)..... nowadays you will never see any of the top black rappers or singers at this show it is actually quite sad. It is sad that they think they are ABOVE the show. The Soul Train awards could use the star power to draw more viewers, its a great award show.

You hit the nail right on the head. The Soul Train Music Awards used to be a MUST SEE awards show in my household. It was so exciting to see Michael, Prince, Janet, Whitney, etc. all the big black pop stars as you said, perform and/or make an appearance. In the late 80's and early 90's, I believe Eddie Murphy made an appearance at the show almost every year. It was surely something to see. In fact, at the 1992 ceremony when they honored Prince with the Heritage Award, that was THE best montage I've seen put together for him an any awards show. Then when he came out in that lime green suit with the boots to match.... I remember the crowd was wild during his whole entire speech! Let me see if I can find it on Youtube.... I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Great pic! I'm glad that K-Ci had a lot more control when singing during the Soul Cypher. He actually sounds better than he has in recent years. Perhaps he's gotten his life together now. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I used to attend the Soul Train shows when it was at its peak but things stared to change in the mid 90's.There were a series of events over 3 days or more that lead up to the show. Back then practically everyone in Hollywood would attend these shows and the events went off without a hitch. In the mid 90's when rap artists when started gaining momentum and started showing up at the events the dynamics changed a great deal. All of a sudden, safety issues and drama became a major player at these events. In 1996, during the live show 2pac strolled in causing a disturbance during a commercial break. It was ridicules and embarrassing as hell. The very next year Chris Wallace was killed outside one of the events in Santa Monica. That was the end of the major star participation and the very last event I went to. It got to the point where it seemed like certain people only showed up to either show out or cause drama. It was no longer about the Award Show or the artists. FOOLS multiply when WISE Men & Women are silent.

So it became like the Source and Vibe Awards, where people came to fight? You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Hasn't the "Source" and "Vibe" awards been revamped as the BET Hip Hop awards? I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

The 2015 Soul Trains Awards show is definitely a classy (even a little educational) worthwhile show that is up to its usual standards of excellence. Erykah Badu performed clever, slick, funny and classy MC duties. All of the hosts such as Tank, the Arnolds, Wendy Robinson did excellent classy work that reminds me of the best of R&B DJ personalities on R&B radio stations that mix class, slick comedy, sexiness, and fun in cool, calm, and collected yet aggressive ways in the 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s (up to and inclusive of 2015). This show emphasized this type of low key yet very effective type of R&B entertainment. Erykah Badu, key portions of Jill Scott's music and a large portion of Babyface's very successful music were only a few examples of this emphasis. Perhaps not as obviously as prior shows, this one did an effective job at inclusion of performers that represented almost the entire history of Soul Train (The O'Jays and Eddie Levert had success on the charts around or shortly after the first episode of Soul Train and Cameo's first LP was release in 1977, Babyface started with the Deele in 1982 and was successful and dominant for the rest of that decade, R Kelly's first LP as released in 1992 and he was dominant in the 1990s and 2000s, Erykah had dominant success in the late 90s and early 2000s, and then Tyrese and Avant etc. etc.) I would have liked a little more effort to make overt references to particular Soul Train episodes and to Don Cornelius but that is not totally necessary and Cameo even did a little of this type of historical reference. It was noticeable that the main Soul Train show period theme songs that were used were the late 70s/early 80s theme by the Whispers and 1 or 2 from the 90s (maybe late 80s, too) and perhaps the early 2000s (I did not watch Soul Train much in the 90s or 2000s. My loss) I did like the usual excellent eye candy, which from my point of view included lots of women such as Erykah, Brandy, Jill Scott, Janelle Monae, the Arnolds, Wendy Robinson, and several others.

Don't know, I think that is a separate thing You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton
